Gotta get it to COLIN. Give yourself an inside out opportunity. Sad first half strong second couldn’t overcome it.
i rewatched the play after hearing the comments. We set up with Kugel and and Colin high. Jones sets a screen for Kugel… who benignly runs to the corner. TAMU easily switches there, and follows Jones out to the perimeter, where he get the ball … going away from the hoop. But this was clearly not the intent. Lofton was in-bounding. Buzz put 6’10 Marble on the ball. You could see Lofton straining to see Colin on the other side of the court… but that pass was never going to be there. Colin got the screen from Richard… and the switch, but the pass was simply impossible. Buzz called a timeout just prior… having seen our set. Before the timeout, he also showed Marble on the inbound passer. I’m really surprised Golden did change the call. It was doomed from the start.
SMH...Golden ran the exact same set??? Not good. What was he thinking? "Let me stick with the same set becsuse they are expecting me to change it but ahahaha...I wont change it becsuse they think I will." SMH...SMH..SMH...no coach...change it anyways regardless to give the defense something totally different. Man I wish CC was reliable from 3 point land because you could've had him inbound the ball then get it nack for a quick 3 or something but I digress.
It’s impossible to say, but we setup exactly the same. Wether he kept the same play or changed to a new one…. a cross court pass, over the top to CC, just wasn’t going to happen with a 6’10 defender on the ball.
Ok, I spoke to Nick. He told me the play was designed for him - but he spotted a good looking girl at the concession stand and ran off the court to buy her a corn dog. By the time he got there, she was gone and he ran back onto the court but the game was over by then. He was very apologetic he got distracted and cost us the game. I told him, “Nick, you gotta do what you gotta do.”
The biggest problem with the last play was that we have very average players trying to execute in a situation that required way above average players. We really don't have one guy who can consistently create his own shot. That's next level skill and we don't have anyone on the roster like that. Except maybe this Nick guy, who apparently was thinking with his other head, at least according audiogator.
I agree! Someone needs to help our coach have these types of plays worked on during practice. Drawing up something in real time apparently is either not our coach’s and/or our players’ strong suit???
