He dicked around Miami. Tebow wouldn't have done that. Neither would Wuerffel and probably Bennett too.

    When I see U-10 through U-18 teams, we'll talk. That's a system. What we have is a cluster. . .

But why would they? If anything, they want it the other way around, especially with pitchers. Unlike the NFL, baseball wants to control its player development. Fixing the bats has made college a little more palatable for them, but they'd still rather they go into their system.

That said, a ton of incredible players still end up in college. Why? They want the experience of college. They see it as an opportunity they want to explore, not purgatory holding them back from the big money.

Honestly who ever put Heitner in a position of influence or power has no what he/she is doing.
His social media posts, the way he dresses, really everything is absolutely cringe factor.
That and he looks like he's two years removed from passing the bar.

It is likely that particular players in the past, before NIL, used one school's under the table offer to wrestle a better deal from the next school. But the more that got done, the riskier it would be for all involved that they get caught.

Now that its above board, there is nothing stopping a highly regarded recruit from signing with UF based on a particular NIL package, then have Miami attempt to take them away (either before they sign or in the off season portal) with a better one. Bidding wars are sure to follow and further turn what has become the equivalent of free agency into an annual event for every team.

I don't want to exaggerate as we don't know all the long term ramifications, but it sure feels like the end of college football as we know it.

I agree. MLB loves the system in place. I also think many of those players would like the option of leaving college for the draft when they want to not dictated by MLB.
Baseball gets 11 schollies for 27 players. So most can afford their own way through college anyway. NIL is already growing in baseball.

I have my doubts based on that second to last point. They're there because they want to be there, want that experience vs. bus rides through the Carolinas, etc. That's the thing about being a pro. It's a job. It's not fun time. It's not college. Hell, it's probably not even as cool as Bull Durham.

Also, leaving early still includes at least a year in the minors before being called up. Maybe a little sooner if you're a David Price, but I'm pretty sure he was a September callup in 2008.

I do not have facts, so no need for anyone to scream....

I am conjecturing that Harvard University has the biggest endowment of all US Universities.

If so, it would be funny for them to throw admission/academic standards out of the window, unleash their endowment to fund an NIL football program, and amass a collection of talent that would force Saban and the like to cry a river, and win like 5 NCAA Titles in a row.

Saban would have the biggest temper tantrum in the history of NCAA Football. Hahahahahahhaha

I don't know how much of the speculation about what's going on with this is true, but I am certain that this NIL thing is destroying collegiate athletics and it's doing it quickly. when an NFL team agrees to pay a player a fortune they not only get the player's talents they get certainty for a period of time that the player will be around. The way things are developing, NIL just creates a bidding war between schools and as players develop and start to produce they will inevitably be enticed to switch teams. That's not how the NFL works and if it did you'd lose any semblance of competitive balance and ergo any interest in fans outside a few large metro areas. There is little to no correlation between what these kids are being paid and some kind or return on investment on someone investing in their NAME, IMAGE or LIKENESS. They are being paid to play and win, period. That makes them professional athletes and as professionals they should have to comply with contracts that protect the investor. This is a disaster.

Follow up to my last post ... in terms of competitive balance it's nearly gone already. I literally forgot that the Gators were playing TWICE this season and only caught the end of those games. We lost both. I love the school and the football tradition but honestly I'm just not interested in watching my team lose to a team that pays their players more than we can.

I think we can all agree the NCAA has lost all control. It will now be up to the conferences to regulate NIL and, worse, poaching . . . STEALING a good player with a "better offer" while that player is actively on another team. It started last year, got measurably worse this year and will be totally out-of-control by next year.

@lawgator1 is right. This will be an all-out scramble at the end of every season as it stands now. College football was allowed to die when the NCAA stood by and allowed a few, select schools to cheat without any chance of repercussions.

The frustrating thing about it is that it isn’t more than we could pay. UF raised something like 4.5 billion dollars in its most recent capital campaign, only a fraction of that went to athletics. Which, in a sane world, is the way it should be. That money went to funding projects that will help Floridians and in some cases the entire planet in various ways. LSU had a capital campaign end recently, they raised around 1.3 billion, and north of 500 million of that went to athletics.
We can’t compete with crazy. Nor should we.

That's just it ... I am adapting. I started paying the 'Bull Gator' premium a decade ago and made the decision to upgrade my seats for the Lightning hockey team instead this year. I suspect I'm not the only one.

Our kids if they are any good play with a select group other kids year round. Nothing like when we were kids. Private schools and img’s . It hasn’t been the same for a long time.

The obviously talented players are offered millions straight out of highschool. The 3* guys have no choice but to prove their self in college or play for minimum wage. MLB doesn’t want to pay for thousands of kids to develop., just that first thousand blue hips.

At least you’ve drawn an hone

1st off/ we don’t know who has jerked who here.
2nd- comparing generational players from completely different eras is not even close to being on point. We will never have another Tebow. Georgia got a walk on to win their 1st natty in 40 years but they also had a bunch of 5star guys on defense who no doubt have gotten paid. So using your logic- UF needs to pony up cash for 5 straight top 5 recruiting classes and then let Kyle Engel start and win a natty.
