Figured this deserved its own thread. Michigan transfer LB Deuce Spurlock commits to Florida | GatorCountry.com Transfer linebacker from Michigan. Played in only two games last season and was a member of the 2022 recruiting class, so he'll play next year as a redshirt freshman. Can't say I know much about him beyond the fact that he has a cool name.
High school footage looked good, nice speed, great motor...most of it was OLB/edge, not sure if they project him inside or in Burney slot
Good size at 6-1 230. Not much action in 2022 This excerpt is from an article on the Wolverines website that mentions him as an inside backer. “All three of the freshmen — I’m really pleased with what they’re doing,” Helow said of the young Michigan linebackers. “Playing inside ‘backer, there are a lot of things going on … setting the front, tying into coverages and the fronts, making the calls every play. You’re the quarterback of the defense. “There are three freshman guys in that group —Jimmy Rolder, Micah Pollard and Deuce Spurlock. They’re all doing a really good job.
Put on 20 pounds while at Michigan. Good weight? Reduce speed at all? Can’t tell much about him. Only played 12 snaps this year. Would have preferred a starter with game experience but perhaps they feel they have that in the OSU 5th year senior. This kid from Bama may help us get future kids from Bama
I’m going to wait until the resident “recruiting experts” tell me if I can get excited or not about this signing. Strictly precautionary you understand. Hope is hanging out strictly with Georgia right now.
I know he’s put on 25 pounds and comes from a great program In Michigan. High school rating way off in my opinion as kid can flat out fly. 4 years of eligibility to work with an excellent LB coach!! Really like this pick up. Kid should play next year.
He came in weighing 200 so it’s likely that they shirted him so he could gain weight and strength. With this coming spring practice ahead of him, he should be a key contributor at one of the LB spots, probably outside.
Must be close with every transfer who eventually commits unless they take their chances and wait till the end of spring semester. Hoping we get most of transfers to enroll this week.
