He was eligible in 2021 but sat out due to mental health reasons. He played this year, but in 3 games. He still has 3 years of eligibility but will need a waiver to play in D1, since he already transferred once (unless he has graduated).
I hope for nothing but the best for Arik. He has battled through a lot the past few years and he had as good a support system here while he worked through it. For his sake I hope he can find a strong base of support wherever he lands to get his football career back on track.
So you are saying that he is a head case, and came no where near performing at a five star level? His whole history reeks of trouble. Maybe the NFL can save him, but I think this is very doubtful.
That's harsh to judge a kid like this. He gave up football for mental health issues last year. He is young and has the rest of his life to think about. Football needs to be second. Former Ohio State starting O-Lineman Harry Miller gave up football for mental health reasons.
It's more than just saying he's a head case. He's got some serious difficulties in his life and I hope he is able to overcome them. Being able to lead a productive life should be more the goal at this point than the NFL.
Barstool Florida seems to be interested. I have no idea what issues Arik has but I think Napier is a great guy and has amazing assistants that are all about character development and preparing these players for life after college. I am sure the coaches are evaluating Arik and will reach out to him if they feel he's a fit.
A kid with no family money had an accident in his Mercedes at UGA last year. NIL is good and legal now. Someone I know at LSU said the kid could not stay academically eligible at one of the easiest academic schools in the country. Miraculously his grades improved to transfer and be eligible at UGA.
do you remember when he went to UGA everybody was all concerned because they got him and darnell Washington and would you look now.... cricket from Gilbert
Washington after 3 years has a career 47 yards versus AP top 25. I expect he thought this would be his last year when he got recruited. Washington and Gilbert were some kind of stupid to go to Georgia while Bowers was there.
GGilbert enrolled at Georgia in June of 2021. Washington enrolled In June of 2020 but Bowers was AEE and he enrolled January of 2021 so him and Gilbert started the season at the same time but Bowers was there before him
He should portal out. It's not like he is a bad TE. He just doesn't get much of a chance to shine. Gilbert was an even more impressive prospect when he played at LSU. If either had their acts together and transferred to UF, they would be TE1 immediately.
