Solid points but unless we get two good transfer OL these losses hurt bad. Braun had plenty of starter potential which we will see at Arkansas. Tarquin was at least a part time starter next year. I’m pretty sure what we bring in in the portal will not replace these guys as left tackle/right tackle and offensive guards aren’t easy to find.
Experienced 3rd stringers? Not true anymore. Pre-portal, sometimes.....Post-portal, no. We're not seeing guys stick around for their 5th year SR season as much post-portal. If they are riding the pine - as 3rd stringers do - in their 4th season, they are likely gone. Go look at our snap counts for this past season....3rd stringers almost never played. We went deep into the rotation at CB, and that's about it.
So you think if he was losing snap here he is going to magically go there and be All SEC? It does stink to lose a contributor to some we play every year.
I had no idea that LSU had enough depth problems at DT to get 3 portals there. Lee is kind of emblematic of how poor our DT were this year.
Color me surprised. I thought his snaps were increasing and would have a real role next year. I thought he was one of our better tacklers.
So here is a potential problem... how many backups, low quality, etc type players can we lose before desperation to fill the slots ends up bringing in more 3rd string, low quality players just to get head count? Basically a third of our team has gone into the portal, and with normal attrition from graduation, and back filling with the new recruiting class, where do we stand on head count? It's getting to the point cutting the chafe is just going to get us in a position to bring in anyone that can fill a spot. Lol, transfer portal in action...
Someone posted yesterday that we would be at 78 with all of our hs signees and transfers this far. Do not believe that included Tarquin, so we should have 8 scholarships left. I didn’t verify those numbers, but it should be pretty close to that. The extra year of eligibility made our normal attrition from graduation numbers very low. IIRC, there were only 4-5 guys that had used up all their eligibility, plus the 3-4 guys departing early for the nfl.
That sucks I was really hoping he would get a shot at nickel. But if he couldn’t get on the field this year it’s not likely he would beat out Denson or Thornton. I’m sure he will go somewhere and be a multi year starter.
So you're saying we are seeing an Exodus in our Numbers because of the Genesis of the NIL or Revelations that players are having about their future playing time. Apparently Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John and the twelve disciples all went elsewhere. I'm just glad Shadrack, Meshack, and Abednego are all willing to face the fire and come back for another year. I'll wait while anyone wants to blend in Leviticus and Deuteronomy.
Last year we filled those spots with stalwarts like OL Hermann and WR Tai Bowman…a who’s who of talent they were not.
Portal season isn't over, my friend. We're projected to have 1 Sr CB for next season, and Young was projected to be the 7th CB in the rotation, not including the true freshmen....All good, this is the new college football world we live in. The days of studs waiting just to play their RS Sr season are over. To answer your question: We're at 78 right now, so we have room for 7 more.
That was me....Yes, that included Tarquin, and now we lost Young...but we resigned Livingston, so those 2 wash out. We're still at 78 as of this moment. I am using the official roster on the UF website as my source.
That’s my worry too. Do we start taking flyers on 3* recruits for bodies or guys that are just as bad as the guys leaving? We haven’t exactly been active in the portal at this point either.
