Well…Obviously Mertz wasn’t on the top of anybody’s list…however I think Napiers evaluations have been pristine so far. He has earned a bit of trust with his transfer evaluations such as Pearsall, Torrence, Johnson. He has def hit on transfers
C'mon, we aren't taking 2 QBs. Metz could go somewhere else and start for sure, why would he come here to be a backup. Now, he might get beat out but it is clear to me that we have missed on other QBs and that CBN wants someone with significant starting experience and that Mertz is the best available. 8-4 is best case scenario imo. I think though it is entirely possible that we end up 6-6 again with him as QB.
Who is to saybwe aren't bringing two transfer qbs on. Do you think Mertz or Miller scare a higher rated qb away? Miller isn't a high rated transfer so he has limited options. After all, Miller is one injury away from beingnstarting Qb so I imagine Napier is looking to bring two QBs in. Mertz could be insurance policy in case a higher rated qb comes and gets hurt.
It’s interesting, Mertz has not announced this on his feed, and only a couple of sites are running with it. Was it leaked? He was the highest rated QB Wisky ever signed. He was okay his freshman season, sophomore season was a disaster with more INT’s than TD’s, this year was better but still nothing to crow about. He’s basically Jack Miller, can’t help to think maybe Billy was afraid Miller would bolt if a much better QB was brought in, hope that wasn’t the case. Neither of these guys will take UF to the next level, imho. Definitely not one of the guys I had high hopes UF would land, disappointing.
Meh. This staff was dealt the worst hand since Pell. What we are and what we used to be are worlds apart. At the very least Napier modernized the program, and hopefully he can build a strong enough foundation that he (or the next guy) can succeed at a level we can all live with. Mertz as depth is fine when the cupboard is actually bare.
One more thing: Is this how Billy was able to get Rashada back in the fold, by not bringing in one of the top portal QB’s?
There going to be noise in the system short of miracles. It’s going to be tough getting this going in the right direction. This class is a good start but it’ll be 2-3 years until these kids are competent. The portal hopefully will help us through, we have some pieces but not nearly a seasoned team.
That’s three years, call em what you want. You get three years with the talented guys. If you wait till year three as we did with AR, that’s all you get is the first year and they are gone.
Possibly, He may have asked for a chance to start as a freshman. That would make perfect sense. It would also give him time to develop before lagway got here. He could easily have two years of starting time by the time Lagay redshirted a year
Yep. Rashada won’t be the first freshman quarterback to break the into the starting quarterback spot.
