I know we have a lot of soccer enthusiasts here and now that we are out of the round stage and into the knockout stage I thought it deserved a thread. PLEASE NO POLITICS - let's just focus on the sport! Netherlands are a solid, not spectacular, team. US will need to play fast and have strong accurate passing to break Netherland 5man back block. On the other end, Adam’s needs to neutralize DeJong and we should be ok.
USA vs. Netherlands: Louis van Gaal acknowledges 'flu symptoms' hampering players in Dutch World Cup camp
Do you think Wes may be more responsible for De Jong and Tyler focused on Gakpo? We have not had to deal with a team playing a 10 this tournament. If Gakpo gets to roam, I could see where Adams tracks him.
Yes.. but I worry that Wes may run out of steam. To my eye, DeJong makes the team go… and Gakpo is the biggest danger… I can see Tyler rolling over to mark Gakpo and letting Wes handle DeJong as long as he can. Keeping those two in check is going to be huge.
Go USA! The World Cup teams and the play throughout has been incredible this year. The talent and sheer competition as good as ever and that leaves the USA with as much a chance to win it all as everyone else.
We look tired, and not sure why we decided to play Ferreira. He looks rusty as you'd expect. Great game plan by the Dutch, especially after the early goal.
Agree. He draws defenders and that's about it. The Netherlands are a faster more experienced team and we're just not able to defend against a team like this.....
Two things seem to stand out. First, we are so small compared to the Dutch (and most others, for that matter). They are manhandling us. Second, and not sure why, but they seem flat and tired. Defense is not marking anyone. Strange to be so flat for such a big game.
Their spacing on the attack is more strategic. We need to take a lesson from them and have an attacker on the second level around the penalty spot when working crosses in. That’s exactly how they got both of their goals. Let’s get our first goal and get back into this game. Go Team U.S.A.!
