It never seemed to be a lack of talent on his part. For whatever reason whether it was picking up systems or blocking it just never clicked.
To all those Gators moving on to the Transfer Portal: 1). Thank you for choosing to be Gators. and for contributing to the Gator program in various ways. 2). We Gator fans wish you well as you search for a new team… and sincerely hope that you’ll have great success on the football field there and in life.
Pierce? Is he coming back from the Houston Texans to use his remaining year of eligibility? YEEESSS!!! Get what you mean. You missed Malik Davis, playing well for the Cowboys. Lingard was behind 2 NFL backs and is behind 2 future NFL backs
I hear you...but that example is not the real world trade off. We never know which freshman is going to be ready to contribute year 1...and who will be ready year 2. In general, yeah, I would absolutely trade a SR that is not projected to play for the opportunity to develop a freshman, or to make room for another transfer in a position of need. The objective is to win a title, so you always aim to have top tier talent. A 3rd string senior is not top-tier talent. And keep in mind that with covid year, next years seniors across the country will be 6th year seniors! I mean, if they aren't playing by then.....
I didn't really create this thread (my post was pulled out of another thread), but I felt compelled to try to keep an active list. Upon review, you are (not surprisingly) already doing so. I've updated the thread title for others to more easily see your hard work. Thanks, ET!
Good thing is that no one who's entered the portal is unexpected or a surprise. Ones that would catch me off guard to enter the portal from the current roster are: Dex (if he doesn't go pro) Marshall ETN Trell Barber Watson Pearsall Devin Moore anyone else wouldn't shock me at all or would make me feel like is a big loss
Sorry to hear that Lorenzo Lingard is leaving, thought he would have had more carries this year. He looked good when he got to play.
Fair points, but kind of illustrates my point too. You will always have a 3rd string. No matter what your talent floor and ceiing are. Georgias has a third string and it is better than our 3rd string (maybe 2nd even...) Only 11 guys see the field at a time. Always a 3rd string. If I have to carry a guy on the bench, which I would, I would definitely want a few (not all) older developed guys. With the portal so active now though, you can probably just recruit/purchase development and forego the 3-4 year investment. Let someone else do it and then just buy the depth you need each year. Kind of sad in a way, but not a big fan of how NIL is actually working vs intended.
Malzan at UCF would run the wheels off Lingard....think its a good landing spot on his tour of Florida teams...Ironically thats where Bowman went.
With the extra Covid year and having to move a lot to get under the max amount, won’t there be a ton of kids flooding the market this year? Everyone will have that problem. Seems a ton will have no choice but to go to the non-playoff sub football sub series conference (DII), no? Especially with those moving up from those schools. Careful what you wish for, if on your own terms.
Fair points as well, but i see it differently. Show me a roster with 3rd string seniors and I’ll show you an average team. 10 years ago I’d have a different answer, more aligned with your view, but not these days.
