In all seriousness right now it has to be Tebow as far as most person identified with being a Florida Gator.

Dunno, for me, it has to be Spurrier. Heisman Trophy winner, Hall of Fame head coach, field named after him. SOS didn't put Florida on the map (Graves and Pell built the foundation), but Spurrier built a palace that is only now starting to show cracks of age and disrepair. He led the team to our first MNC, and no one forgets their first time. I'm being old, but I have to remember, a senior in 1996 would be nearly ready for AARP membership now.

I never cared much for Spurrier's whiny wisecracks, but he brought the passing game into a run-dominant SEC and, along with Bill Walsh, made everyone in the SEC change their offensive way of thinking.

Spurrier is the greatest Gator of them all, and for me, it's not really that close. as for fame, I could say Emmitt Smith, but I doubt there are many Cowboy fans, let alone NFL fans who know, or care, that Emmitt went to Florida. Tebow is visible now, but he is also remembered for his NFL career, where rightly or wrongly, was considered a poor QB, at least by NFL fans not affiliated with the Gators. His extraordinary moral behavior captured the imagination of the nation, but that is starting to fade...

He is up there for sure. I think he’s more isolated to football fans though. Erin Andrews is known pretty widely now, especially with her non sports ventures.

"Who is the most famous GATOR TO GATOR FANS"

I don't see how it isn't Steve Spurrier. He's been an integral part of UF for much longer and in more roles.

    Go GATORS!

May be a generational thing, but Spurrier towers above all others. It's not even close.

The men are very split on who they admire, so it is probably a landslide for Jesse Palmer with all of the Gator women.

I get what you are saying BUT before you watched Spurrier on Saturday AFTERNOON(!!!), what did you watch?

Answer: This Old House (ok technically New Yankee Workshop and THEN This Old House but you get the point).

Plus Bob was on 52 weeks a year. Just sayin’…

Probably the most infamous Gator most here have not heard of is Robert “Bob” Brockman. He graduated summa cum laude for UF and later became a billionaire. He was charged with the largest tax fraud case in US history. The IRS claims he owes $1.5 billion in back taxes. He died a few months ago awaiting trial, but the IRS is still going after the estate.

No doubt in my mind the most famous Gator is Tim Tebow. Famous from the Oxford "known about by many people."
There is a difference between greatest Gator and most famous Gator. Everyone in these times know Tim. He is on TV every week and he is well known and well liked.
If the OP was about the greatest Gator, i think that's when E Smith and SOS would come into play for discussion purposes.
