Out played Ventrell last night. I love Miller but man he has missed some tackles the last two games. Shemar will Be a good one.
On the other hand, I didn't think Wingo looked good enough for what we need at LB. All night long Jordan Travis made our LBs and DBs look slow and poor tacklers
Seemed like Travis was always running away from our LB’s. And oddly, our big # 9 was the only Gator who ever got close to tripping him up.
Stud. He has mad talent and instincts too which bodes well for us going forward. That strip tackle on the first drive was amazing football.
Well you have to hand it to FSU for exploiting one of our many weaknesses. Travis had his best game running the ball ever and they probably saw that in the film room. They said, "you know what, I bet Travis could be the leading rusher if we give him 7 or 8 QB runs. Florida will never be able to stop him because they can't tackle, aren't fast, and they are weaker than any team we've played all year." We really need to work on tackling, team speed and team strength in the off season. Benson pretty much bulldozed our defense and I only saw AR doing that once and saw ETN do it just once. I never like being the finesse team because of what Nebraska did to us. James will be fine, a bright spot for next season. Saw some good things from him.
Yeah, probably tough for Miller to come in to start the second half with no feel for the game whatsoever. In hindsight, maybe better to have just left James in there.
Those 2 scrambles on 3rd down were facking brutal. Make a play on either one of those & it's a different ball game.
I guess we see why Wingo hasn't gotten on the field...he's slow. Surprising how a recruit at that position can get such a high star rating not being able to run the field.
He was another one of our old defensive staff’s takes that was a high school defensive end/rush end that was trying to covert to LB. They loved taking those guys.
All I want for Christmas is a small boat load of real, no BS LBs who can run the field and do some damage when they get to the ball carrier. The current lack of speed/talent at that position is shocking - but not surprising due to the laziness and ineptitude of the previous staff. IMO, we need at least two really strong portal transfers, and at least two additional HS recruits to go with the guys BN has already brought in. I honestly don't know enough about Scooby Williams to form an opinion, but other than Shemar and the 4* we flipped from SCe, the cupboard is pretty much bare.
2 portal transfers with one being an immediate plug and play guy to start beside Shemar. The other would be for depth. Right now we only have 1 high school linebacker committed.
What's the story on Pyburn? I know he's a monster on special teams! Would think he's more than capable of becoming a solid backer for us.
Williams and Wingo were complete non-factors in that game and this year, and James is still quite raw (but at least he can run). Borders must be bordering on awful to not be able to see the field or they are transitioning him into a new position. When Amari Burney is head and shoulders your second best LB that tells you all you need to know about how woeful that position is.
They need to take at least 4 lb's out of the Portal with varying eligibility left and pray they get 2 that can play if they are only going to sign 1 HS player. Williams, Wingo, and Borders can't play the position.
