You're welcome for all the music, which extends quite a bit beyond just the blues. Rock 'n' Roll has a home here as well, and country, gospel, and jazz wouldn't be the same without influences from here. One thing about being a feudal state almost since settlement - that much poverty (or worse) makes for a very creative music culture. One thing I find that shocks people who visit if they come see my band play is that Mississippians generally like a bit of everything musically. You lose the stereotype of who likes which genre pretty quickly after seeing a few live music shows around here.

Also makes for a helluvalot of good food. I was positively spoiled growing up here and didn't realize it until moving around the states later in life. All the best food moves up and down the river, and we've picked the best of it and put our own spin on it. Seafood, BBQ, creole, cajun, southern - hell, we even have our own unique tamale culture here. To this day, I have no idea why anyone willingly lives in the culinary desert that is the midwest. Any state that gets excited about a horseshoe sandwich or Cincinnati chili can't possibly know how to have any real fun after dark.

We also have the prettiest women in the country, though the food certainly gets a good many of us later in life. Yin and yang I suppose.

    Philistine.

We're older than our twin to the east and tend to look at it as a buffer between us and Georgia.

I can go on for days about everything I hate about Mississippi, but I wouldn't want to be from anywhere else at the end of the day. It's hard place to explain to outsiders - how does the same place that produces people like Byron De La Beckwith and Clarence Strider also produce William Faulkner, B.B. King, Morgan Freeman, and Jimmie Rodgers? The amount of brilliance and ignorance I run into on a daily basis still confounds me after 40+ years of either living here or coming back here often.

I reckon Faulkner said it best, “To understand the world, you must first understand a place like Mississippi.”

Biloxi is decent. They hooked us up with a super fancy Hotel room at the Casino once. So there's that. I remember the road goes out over the ocean from the beach too- a bit strange- I guess they ran out of land!o_O

It isn't far from Gulf Shores, Al, and once there, it isn't too far from Pensacola Beach, Florida.

Go Gators:D-beat anyone from Mississippi (next time) and certainly beat the folks from Tenn-especially Vandy this weekend!

Whelp, Faulkner had a sense of humor, philosophically speaking!

Leslie West Played a 1957 Les Paul Jr. early on. I have a 1957 Les Paul Jr. This is vaguely germain but noteworthy nonetheless and connects me deeply to Miss!:)

    Go Gators.:D

She used to cut the singer of my first band's hair when he was a kid and she wasn't yet famous.
