are you surprised, this will not be an easy fix. Honestly we kept Becky around a bit too long then made a bad hire.
I'm not sold on last year being a bad hire. Maybe I'm wrong, but it sounded to me like he told some players the unvarnished truth and they retaliated. This year's team is statistically worse than 2021 (at this point in the season) and the 2021 team not only sneaked into the SEC tourney, but advanced a round. Unless something drastic changes for the better, this year's team won't. The offense rarely threatens the opponent: lots of long, direct passes up the middle to unsupported attackers, lots of playing the ball into pressure while ignoring/not seeing open teammates, and don't even get me started about whatever-it-is they're doing on corner kicks. Yeah, there are a few opportunties created by individual play; but relatively few developed from team play. On the plus side, there are fewer of the bad turnovers in the defensive third of the field, fewer (but still some) no-look passes for turnovers, and they're not getting blown out of games. But honestly, the games aren't as close as the scores seem to indicate. Go Gators! Time will tell whether they can turn it around.
much of our remaining talent after last year left over Amato, it’s one of the reasons he’s gone. I think we lost 13 players or something crazy. And then with the new coach the recruiting class got interrupted too. We have little SEC level talent left on the roster, it’s a multi year rebuild, even with the portal. She is going to need time and support.
The talent isn’t there. I’ll give her time. But we might not score a goal in sec play. obviously Amato was a disaster and Becky just forgot how to recruit and was to obsessed with possession with no purpose. They stopped playing with urgency. Hopefully they bring in a good class and add some transfers
he was absolutely a terrible hire who was not very well liked by anyone on campus. I mean almost everyone I know thought he was just a complete ahole
The positive is they scored 2 goals and are 'in' games. The SEC isn't like the acc for soccer, should be able to turn this thing around. Since our downfall, no team has truly consistently replaced us at the top. south Carolina won a few regular season titles in a row, and Arkansas has won the past 3, but can't win the sec tourney or find huge success in the tourney. honestly the league the past few years hasn't been great. i'm not sure if bama's current run is sustainable. the team is very good this year with 13 seniors, which is a huge part of their success. only time will tell. I think bama throttles Arkansas this weekend to remain the top program in the league. a program that has had little to no success historically Soccer SEC Champions Should be interesting because the older 3 agegroups of girls ecnl, florida teams aren't having much success. Talent drop off? too many leagues etc, who knows, but clearly recruiting is a national phenomenon now and you can't just focus on your backyard.
Cats dominating play in the second half, UF hasn't taken a shot first 15 minutes. Cats with 4 shots, 1 SOG
UK finally gets the tying goal at the 80 minute mark....UF hadn't even taken a second half shot at that point. Was hoping to hold them off, will now have to try and get the offense back in gear...which seems unlikely
IS Amato in jail for what he has done to this program? GOOD LORD! They haven't won a game since Sep 1st. Bama is going to win 5-0, a&m, 3-0. Bright side, should have tons of opportunities for young players to step in and play. I thought it would be bad, but honestly not this bad -- At least we got some goals the past 3 games, that's a positive.
Good first 25 min against bama just no threat when they go forward. but moving the ball well on the ground.
Well held their own against bama, 2-0 final. Florida is an easy team to play against, they don't play long, so they aren't dangerous with long balls and try to play a nice passing version of the game. When you don't have the horses to play quality quick 1 to 2 touch, you will give the ball away alot. That's what happens, teams can let them try to keep the ball, and then make a mistake etc. Bama didn't start to to cement their dominance though, and are the mature team. almost their entire team might be back if they take advantage of the extra covid year.
Bama is not the best SEC team. They needed two perfect shots to score and we did have some good opportunities. They ended the game in a rather classless manner that almost led to an injury. They pushed hard to score again in last 30-sec when they could’ve killed the clock. Then after game didn’t even do handshake with our team.
