It's not like coaches say anything interesting on Twitter (give or take a Kiffin). Golden isn't going to tweet, "OK, here's a Twitter thread on how we're going to attack Kentucky. Cal's hair isn't going to know what hit it." If you follow a couple Gator-oriented sportswriters, they probably follow Golden, and they'll retweet anything interesting he says onto your timeline.
Fair enough, but it is a gauge. LSU's new coach has almost twice as many I believe and UCF's Johnny Dawkins has 4x that many. I was one of the guys that rode with Mike White, but I now think he made the fanbase apathetic.
McMahon has 17.5K followers and nearly 8K Tweets. Golden is at 14.1K followers and about 1/8 the # of Tweets. Also, these coaches aren't starting from scratch when they get these jobs. Dawkins has been around a long time. Golden had very few followers when he got the UF job. Of Golden and McMahon, I would almost certainly bet Golden saw a far greater increase in % of followers since both were hired.
It's oftentimes the type of fans that become followers. Gator softball has more than twice the number of followers as Gator baseball.
Who did that? I was saying his lack of followers compared to other coaches may be a sign of apathy in the fanbase, its in no way an indictment on coach Golden.
