I anticipate bill orielly has a different take on the influence of nyt.

“Fox News is cutting ties with Bill O’Reilly, the biggest star in its 20-year history, after mounting allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior prompted the network to end his program”

“the climate shifted dramatically after The New York Times reported…..”

Fox News drops Bill O'Reilly in wake of harassment allegations | Fox News

Bill O'Reilly was taken down by New York Times reporter he threatened in 2015

Meh. You give him way too much credit. But if just this one guy on TV 5 hours a week has such an impact, what do you think Wokeness etc. and all the crap that entails being purveyed 24/7/365 in hundreds of movies, TV programs, news networks, magazines, newspapers, sports and corporate boards does to the fabric of America?

I’ve said numerous times that I view all cable networks as propaganda machines. I don’t think ANY of them are worth a shit. But the fact is that until Fox arrived the left had a monopoly on propaganda by having control of what narratives the public could hear and see. Now that Fox is here all of the sudden people need to be “protected” from seeing it because it’s divisive yet the crap on MSNBC and CNN isn’t???

I don’t watch Carlson because like most of those guys he has basically one take. They are usually redundant and bore me. And I certainly don’t agree with them all the time. And of course my wish, as I have stated here many times, is for these propaganda news outlets to go away and be replaced by a straight news station that presents only the hard facts and allows the viewer to make their own conclusions. But since that’s never going to happen I’m not going to spend anytime worrying about a guy like Carlson when I know there are a couple dozen liberal versions of him just down the dial. It is what it is.

No, there's not a couple of dozen liberal versions of him on the other major news stations.
None of what you wrote changes the fact that he is constantly playing to white fear and resentment, and he's very successful at drawing lots of viewers. Do you really think that playing to racial fear and resentment doesn't harm this country?
For all your "i don't care about Tucker Carlson ..." you've certainly been busy posting how offended you are that anyone dare write about what he's doing.

Sure there are dozens of liberal commentators doing the liberal version of what Carlson is doing. You just agree with them so you think that’s different. And I’m writing about the left’s fear of Carlson and their fixation on him and angst that he is some kind of Nazi racist which is overblown and hyperbolic. And I feel the same way about many liberal commentators that you feel about Carlson but I don’t think they are worthy of threads and threads about them let alone a three part series in the NYT written by a liberal from MSNBC. o_O

Actually, I don't know if I agree with them. You mentioned Joy Reid earlier. I don't think I've ever listened to her.

Carlson probably wouldn't be worth a three-part series if he weren't leading the ratings. Key line early on in one of the NYT stories:

And the guy who wrote that story is a reporter for the New York Times.

I think the comments in this thread have proved his point. Some folks on the The Left are more than happy to throw accusations of -isms or phobias at people they politically disagree with. Part of it is to stigmatize them with a label that makes them unfit to be taken seriously. I can give lots of examples if you want to see them. You saw people doing that in this very thread. When that happens to most people, they get upset and feel threatened and choose to no longer engage in the conversation. That is how we ended up with a thread started by one poster that claimed Republicans were supporting fine with candidates accused of being X, Y, and/or Z and it was pointed out to that poster that Republicans are now constantly being called those things so they have come to expect their politicians will as well.

For the record, I don’t think I’ve ever watch Carlson show on Fox News. I do not give two (bleeps) about him but I do get my back up when the NYTimes thinks they get to decide who is and is not allowed in polite society.

Huh? The claim was made that there is a war against white heterosexual men. I asked for some details about who, how and why? I got this:
Which obviously doesn't come close to answering the questions at all. I point that out, and your response 'see that's the problem with The Left, they throw out accusations ...'

that doesn't make sense, does it?

I'll be honest I didn't read the entire article but I did read enough of it and scanned the rest to get a good sense of the remainder. Personally I could care less about Tucker Carlson's upbringing, family life and family connections which is about as much as I care about Nicholas Condessore's. To be fair such information may give some insight into one's personal beliefs but much more than that defines the person.

Nicholas Confessore's credentials on the other hand appear to be a direct opposite as those of Tucker Carlson. Now I'll be honest and say I haven't read the work Nicholas has done that warranted the many awards he has received. For all I know they could be well rounded articles that takes no prisoners regardless of political association.

In all honesty what is the end goal of such an extensive article on Tucker Carlson? A few passages in this article may give a hint.

Alchemizing media power into political influence, Mr. Carlson stands in a nativist American tradition that runs from Father Coughlin to Patrick J. Buchanan. Now Mr. Carlson’s on-air technique — gleefully courting blowback, then fashioning himself as his aggrieved viewers’ partner in victimhood — has helped position him, as much as anyone, to inherit the populist movement that grew up around Mr. Trump.
    .....
.....Last April, Mr. Carlson set off yet another uproar, borrowing from a racist conspiracy theory known as “the great replacement” to argue that Democrats were deliberately importing “more obedient voters from the third world” to “replace” the current electorate and keep themselves in power. But a Times analysis of 1,150 episodes of his show found that it was far from the first time Mr. Carlson had done so.
    ......
Mr. Carlson is powerful at Fox not merely because he is the network’s face but because he is also its future — a star whose intensity and paranoid style work to bind viewers more closely to the Fox brand, helping lead them through the fragmented post-cable landscape. Last year, Mr. Carlson began producing original content for the network’s nascent streaming service, Fox Nation, and quickly emerged as one of the few Fox stars whose presence could lure viewers to fork over additional dollars. Fox does not divulge audience numbers for the service, but last May, Mr. Murdoch told investors that his star had helped increase Fox Nation subscriptions by 40 percent. Executives talk openly about Fox Nation as a boycott-proof version of Fox News — a walled garden where Fox can collect revenue directly from its viewers as carriage fees from cable providers decline. The services’ executives have called those viewers “fans” of Fox’s “lifestyle brand.”

    Observations
    1. Does Nicholas view Tucker as the next Rush Limbaugh? Possibly.
    2. Does Nicholas view Tucker as a potential candidate for President? Possibly (rumors have been spreading)
    3. Is Nicholas jealous Fox Nation has survived and CNN+ along with a host of other left leaning media is loosing share? Most likely.
Answers to these questions would certainly reveal why Nicholas needs to tear down Tucker. Get rid of Tucker and differentiating points of view and you come that much closer to being the only news in town that pushes your beliefs and agendas. One thing is certain Nicholas enjoys as much power and has a vested interest within his realm (NYT and other associations) as Tucker enjoys on Fox.

Make no mistake from a political point of view Nicholas certainly doesn't hold back on what he believes are the short comings of Tucker's views yet he offers no rebuttal or evidence to the contrary. A point by point analysis with rebuttal would be more appropriate in my opinion. No need to attack the messenger attack the content. To be blunt the media suffers a lack of trust and the NYT is no exception.

I think we are talking past each other here. Dad said The Left and that is a term I also use to describe people that engage in the tactics I suggested.

    I’ll give some examples:
    1. President Biden accused Republicans that were against a Voting Bill that was completely written by Democrats and had no Republican inputs as standing with Bill Connor and being on the side of Jim Crow. According to President Biden there was no reason to be against that bill other than because you are a racist.

    2. Most of the attacks against Hillary Clinton was based on misogyny because of X, Y, and Z. You had all those women that voted for Trump dealing with internal misogyny.

    3. If you are against forcing young people to wait until they go through puberty to get life altering surgery, you are a transphobic.

I could go on but I think you get the point.

And yes, I will happily say that those on the right will throw out the accusations of being Socialist more than they should but that label has lost a lot of its sting with the rise of Bernie.

I keep waiting for Tucker to channel his inner Jason Orlean- “There’s three types of American people. There are you, the working class. Us, the cool rich, and then them.”

Since when is it "News" to print a hit piece against someone in the news industry? This is vendetta crap... has nothing to do with news. The NYT is garbage.

This is very misleading. Republicans refused to participate or negotiate. Just like the ACA that people scream was passed without a single R vote: they only want to obstruct the other party regardless of the issue.

Republican senators on Wednesday voted to block debate on the third major voting rights bill that congressional Democrats have sought to pass this year in response to the state-level GOP push to restrict ballot access following former president Donald Trump’s false claims of a stolen 2020 election.

I’m sorry but it is not. A very similar bill was passed by House Democrats in 2019. It was a promise and a signal that they pass it again if they won in 2020. Both sides of the aisle do things like this when they know it won’t pass and want to send a signal to their base. The opposition knows the majority side is not looking for a deal on the legislation, especially in the House.

Democrats were not interested in making a deal on this issue when they thought they could get this passed through pressure to end the filibuster. Now that they know they cannot, there are discussions on bipartisan efforts to reform the Electoral Act.

This says as much about Tucker Carlson as Nick Confessore's story in the NY Times.
A former leader of the KKK celebrated Tucker Carlson 'finally' sharing the white-supremacist 'great replacement' conspiracy theory
Maybe it's just me but I think it says a lot about the direction of the country when a major television network has no problem with profiting from a commentator who blatantly pushes a racist nativist narrative.
From Radical Fringe to GOP Mainstream: “Replacement Theory” is Now Central Organizing Principle of the Republican Party - America's Voice
It would be hard to argue that anyone has done more to mainstream ‘replacement theory’ than Tucker Carlson. While violent white nationalists’ horrific displays capture wide-ranging disgust, Carlson, the most popular and profitable Fox News Channel primetime host, among others, has labored to shroud the racist lie to make it palatable for a larger audience. The goal here is to be able to employ the terrifying boogeyman created by the replacement narrative for a wider audience which is needed to win elections. Deploying this boogeyman, Republicans can pervert their voter suppression agenda and their opposition to programs for working-class people as a noble defense of democracy and the safety of U.S. citizens. An explicit ‘replacement theory’ appeal would likely not garner the support needed to win congressional majorities, however using a coded version of that fear-based message could be a potent component of their voter mobilization efforts.
Tucker Carlson's commentary is 21st century version of the sentiment reflected in this cartoon from the early 1900s when all four of my grandparents immigrated to the US from Eastern Europe.

i don’t think there is anyone on the left with any sort of material following that does the equivalent of what Tucker does. Sure there are liberals. Some moderate liberals and some hard core liberals. But I don’t know any who are spouting the lie and level of toxic shit Tucker does.

Tucker's ratings are going to go even higher now if that's even possible.

When the left tried to cancel Joe Rogan he supposedly added millions and millions of new subscribers.

The left's cancel culture is finally dying on the vine because the American people are sick and tired of it.
