Men get the earlier start.....as usual it isn't pretty in doubles but UF gets the point with a tiebreak win on court 3 Singles sees a lineup shift Shelton at 1, he wins his first set 6-3 Riffice drops to 2 , wins his first 6-2 Vale stays at 3, wins his first 6-1 Andrade at 4, scuffling at 5-6 Bonetto all the way to 5 and killing it....up 6-2, 5-0 Shelbayh gets a shot at 6, wins his first 6-3 Bit of a youth movement today, good results
Bonnetto closes out his match....solid day in doubles and singles. Freshman earning a spot in the lineup Vale closes his match out to make it 3-0 Riffice is one game away, should wrap it up
Riffice closes it out. Shelbayh and Shelton both 2-2 in their 2nd sets, Andrade lost his tiebreak for 1st set....looks like they may finish out the matches
Great singles performance from the men. LSU women only have 4 players? Ouch. Looks like we only need to win 1 singles match.
Yeah, wonder if LSU has some covid protocol casualties. UF won at #2 doubles and that was enough with the forfeit on 3. Kessler, Zein and Shelton all win first sets, Briggs is down 3-4.
Shelton and Shelbayh were down in their second sets. Shalbayh wins 5 straight games and Shelton 3 straight to claim their matches. Andrade was up 3-0....but just got broken to make it 5-4. If he can win this set I'm sure they will play a super TB to determine it
I looked up their season, they have only played 5 matches total and are 1-4. So something is messed up there.
Looks like Andrade came all the way back....won second set 6-4 and the super 10-7 Very nice outing for the men, not great doubles but at least they got the point. Good day for the young guys Women....Kessler and Zein are both a couple of games away. Briggs lost her first 4-6, Shelton is down 2 breaks in her second. Will probably be an unimpressive sweep
They have 9 on the roster, but have been forfeiting or canceling matches all season. Coach said it's injuries, can't imagine 5 of 9 players cannot go. Kessler and Zein w solid straight set wins Shelton at 5-5 in the second, has fought back into it Briggs down a set and 3-4
Briggs loses....6-1 UF final Big match at TAMU on Sunday....they are one of those teams that appear to be on our "level", need a win to establish themselves in the conference behind UGA
On the men's side, South Carolina's men's team was in an accident last Monday on I-95 on their way to play NC State. No Gamecock players were seriously injured but three of their top six were unabe to play tonight (friday) against the Gators. We won 7-0 as reported but it was kind of lopsided due to that unfortunate accident. Rain is forecast for Sunday at Kentucky. If that is the case we will see the match moved inside. I hate that because Kentucky's indoor facility is old and dingy, and the courts are lighting fast! Big challenge for our Gators!
