Jack likely wouldn’t help himself by coming back. He’s been about the same guy since he’s been here. Decent stuff, inconsistent.
Jack and Tommy were both in their last year of leverage. They both played in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. With 2020 not counting, that is 3 years so their SR year would have been next year.
Some comments question Gators team vibe and chemstry... it seemed to have been bad- no one willing to go public but the numbers willing to go pro on very poor bonus money and transfer portal- speakes volumes. The culture appears not good...(Lars willing to go with his family is an aside but maybe also indicative). There is something going on that is not good.
Good for Franco signing for above slot level-- he got a bigger bonus than JL- surprising but had a bit more leverage and his upside is significant.
I realize this is complete hearsay, but I heard it from a current player parent and a former player parent. I was told the pitchers don’t get any instruction at all. They have their workloads managed and that is about it. I also heard some unflattering things about Sully which I won’t repeat but I don’t want to believe.
I fully agree. Despite very good to elite recruiting classes in recent years, player development has been poor and results disappointing. 2019 and 2021-- were average seasons where the Gators did not play to elite program standard and failed to make it out of the Regionals... culminating in the disastrous and embarrassing home losses to AAC and Sunbelt conference teams. Still hard to believe the South Alabama debacle... I suspect it is the game where some guys who could have come back to improve draft standing said-... "I'm outta here" Something is off inside the program.
There were definitely problems with this year's team. Bu the pre-Covid team was awesome and easily the best team in the country. I highly doubt the speculation that Sully isn't coaching up the pitchers, but the 2022 season is definitely a big year, with all the departures and highly touted freshmen. Personally, I have total faith in our coach and this program and expect we'll be fine going forward.
JUCO transfer Antonio Knowles signed today for $125,000. Another board is reporting that Jud Fabian is coming back to UF because the Red Sox won't meet his asking price of something like $3 million. Hope that's true.
I don’t think we were easily the best team in the country as you posted . Our results this year told u that
Maybe not, but the so-called baseball experts sure thought so. #1 in every poll when the Covid shutdown occurred and unanimous #1 in every poll starting last season. The 7 players UF's team had drafted tied for the most in the nation and was the first time since 2016 the Gators had 7 or more players drafted. The talent was there, but I agree that they didn't perform as a elite team - not even close.
1st round draft pick Chase Petty has signed with the Minnesota Twins for $2.50 million. So the only Gators still unsigned are Fabian (2nd Round) & Hickey (5th round), JUCO RHP transfer Shawn Guilliams (11th round), plus high school signees RHP Kyle Larsen (18th round) and OF Ty Evans (20th round).
Anytime Florida is a pre season #1 in any sport we are doomed. It happends all the damn time. We don’t handle BS so well. It’s rat poison !
Just my take-- but I don't think Jud coming back (as some have indicated might happen) is good for him and perhaps not for team. Unless he has a major upgrade in his approach at the plate I don't see his star improving... Who at UF is coaching him to improve against big time pitching? Sign for $2 M if you can get it and try your hand in pro ball with different coaching.
Sorry Ocalaman but so called experts are as lazy as the next guy... Gators go 16-1 in a shortened season (with no SEC action) and bring everyome back.... ok- they are #1 preseason the following year- meaningless with no SEC play on card in 2020.
