A hospital having to delegate personnel or equipment to Covid 19 response could also contribute to someone dying...so technically that could be a cause of death related to Covid 19?

I'm trying to figure out who would benefit from inflated numbers? Not Trump (Republican) not Cuomo (Democrat) not de Blasio (Democrat).

So whats the angle you keep pushing? Honest question

Perhaps he doesn't understand sometimes we have these things with statistics called "outliers" perhaps today could be one of them?

Or it could be many other things including things like the naval ship helping lessen the strain on the hospital, the javits center hospital helping, more health professionals have volunteered etc...

people want to save face from the economic disaster they have created when, at the very start of this, some in the medical field said, and my numbers may be off some, that 60-70% of the US would get infected, and 1.2-1.5 million would die , a far, far cry from what we have, yet the entire economic infrastructure of the US was destroyed.they need a little justification for the economic collapse they helped create by all the measures they called for, just my opinion.

You realize this whole thing isn't over? And that if they did nothing those numbers were very possible?

So if we didn't take measures, what if that many people died? The economy would be just as screwed.

Perhaps it's the fault of every industry not being prepared for a catastrophic event and not saving up their 6 month emergency fund for a rainy day.

So the theory is the mayor and governor are willing to accept responsibility for more deaths to justify their shutdown? They just extended the shutdown, so that just seems super unlikely. Unless they didn't learn their lesson that the shutdown wasn't necessary and are doubling down on it.

It's hard for me to imagine a politician not trying to minimize the number of deaths on his watch, even for strictly political purposes.

The virus is inflating the numbers to have bragging rights over SARS.

This makes no sense. Everyone and their mother knows that those estimates were if we didn't take these drastic measures and just carried on treating it like it was "just like (or no worse than) the flu".

They don’t care. Go back and read through this whole thread. They see the results of social distancing and conclude that the dangers were overplayed. They are playing the result. Originally, remember, it was to make Trump look bad. We had a poster here predicting that the disease would disappear March 31. We had another saying that the disease would cap at 1000 deaths. Same as the flu. Take New York’s numbers and just assume linear growth for a year. New York is a good example because it was seeded in February. The right wing media led by presenting false information before and are lying now. We do need to figure out how to open things up, but we do not have the right data. Because we left it to the states and the private sector and the federal government didn’t prepare for this. A big failing. If more places had been seeded in Mid February like New York, we would be seeing disasters all over the place. The Roosevelt carrier and Smithfield factory in South Dakota illustrate the dangers of not doing the measures we have taken. The disease has run rampant threw the people in both places. With one sailor dead and several very sick. These news sources aren’t relying on virologists or biologists. And they are trying to divert from the poor planning that led to us having to make these drastic decisions. They aren’t relying on biologists and virologists. Or empirical examples. But they do tell those who feel victimized what they want to hear.
