A little shocked at the amount of gear sent to former players. Probably get it free from Nike etc and it can't hurt to have pro players wearing your gear.

Another HR by Alonso tonight in the 1st off ex-Vandy pitcher Walter Buehler. I don’t know Pete’s stats against Walter in college but they would have faced off potentially in ‘14 and ‘15.

Pete hit number 19 later in the game as well. 3-4 and 4 RBI on the night.

Jonathan India collects three hits, home run in victory
JUPITER, Fla. - DH Jonathan India collected three hits - including his first home run in two weeks - as the Daytona Tortugas captured the first game of their six-game road trip with a 5-2 victory over the Palm Beach Cardinals on Tuesday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.

Trailing 2-0 heading to the third, Daytona (28-23) managed to tie the game in the top of the frame. With a man at second and one out, LF Drew Mount (2-5, 3 R, 3B, RBI, 2 SO) slapped a drive into the left-center field gap. SS José Garcia (1-5, R) scored from second, as the 23-year-old slid into third with an RBI triple to pull the team within one, 2-1. Following a strikeout, 2B Alejo Lopez (2-5, RBI) stroked a knock through the right side of the infield. Mount scored on the single to tie the contest up at two.
Following the six-game road swing, the Tortugas will return to The Jack for a seven-contest homestand of their own, starting with four contests against the Bradenton Marauders, High-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The series begins on Monday, June 3 with a Belly Buster Monday presented by Marco's Pizza. Starting at just $13, fans can enjoy all-you-can-eat hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, and popcorn along with their game ticket.

Multi-game plans and single-game tickets are still currently available and can be purchased online at www.daytonatortugas.com, or by calling the Tortugas' Ticket Office at (386) 257-3172.

Those two HRs off Buehler last night brought a smile to my face. I quickly went through the box scores and it appears they only faced off in the epic 2015 Sunday game in Nashville. Buehler gave up 3 in the first, we gave the lead away, then came back and won it in extras. Looks like Alonso didn't have a hit off of him.

At this point, he would have to be. 3rd in the league in HR. 13th or so in OPS. How does that not make an All-Star roster?

I should add he is 3rd in the NL in HR, 6th in the NL in RBIs, 7th in SLG, and 10th in OPS.

MLB totals are 3rd in HR, 8th in RBI, 9th in SLG, and 17th in OPS.

Previous OPS estimate of 13th was incorrect.

His weaknesses thus far are batting average and strikeouts. He is hitting .264 which isn’t bad but it isn’t great. Middle of the road. He is striking out a lot. 64K in 197 ABs.

Bellinger has 31Ks in 197 ABs. Bregman has 35K in 196 ABs.

AA/Eastern League is a great place to play and for AF to show out like that! A lot of baseball folks will be very aware of anyone there.

Hopefully, he makes the team, but he doesn't deserve the start over Bell in Pitt. Josh Bell is hitting 80 points higher with just 1 less HR, more RBI, higher OPS, etc. Guy that most people haven't even heard of, but is having a great year.

He is a rookie. He has very little chance in the fan vote. He won’t start in the All-Star game but he should be on the team. Besides, the Mets are very mediocre and someone has to be an All-Star!!!

I actually like the minimum 1 All Star requirement. The game is a meaningless anyway so why not give every single fan base someone to cheer for.

    Gators in MLB: June update
    • Dylan O’Shea, Alligator Sports Writer
The odds of making a Major League Baseball roster coming out of college are miniscule.

About 1,200 players are drafted in the 40 rounds of the MLB Draft. To put that into perspective, each major league team holds an active roster of just 25 players at one time. The amount of players in MLB on any given day, regardless of roster changes, is 750.

Of all the UF players who have touched the diamond in orange and blue, only 70 have gone on to fulfill their dreams of making it to the bigs.
Despite the long odds, there is still a strong Florida presence in the majors.
On Opening Day of 2019, seven former Gators suited up for a Major League Baseball team. Those players were rookies Pete Alonso (Mets) and Richie Martin (Orioles), along with veterans Harrison Bader (Cardinals), Mike Zunino (Rays), Anthony DeSclafani (Reds), Brian Johnson (Red Sox) and Darren O’Day (Braves). Some players have been sent up and down during that time, while others have stuck around.
