Why? How much better would it have played if word got out that Kelly wanted to deal an SS walked away from the table?
If true, then Chip Kelly is an even bigger piece of shit than I thought, and we really didn't want him anyway. The fat slimy bastard actually did us a freaking favor
So Stricklin wrote the contract that way for Kelly to sign? If Kelly wanted that in the contract, they should have told him to go to hell.
I don't think anyone would have faulted Stricklin for NOT giving Kelly a contract with a 10 day opt out. That is totally insane. You are either coming to coach Florida or not...Do you think his UCLA contract has a 10 day opt-out?
No....no tengo marido. Estoy divorciada. Pero que ver esas "partes" es para un marido...no ustedes locos
Disagree - you're saying we should have handled this to trap him into his commitment to UF. To that I say hell no. This is one guy who apparently has no moral compass or personal integrity. Screw him and move on. Go Gators
Agree on CK. Glad it's coming out though so people see exactly who was at fault here...and it wasn't the insiders/posters on this board.
First, yeah. I wanted Kelly... However, the more and more I read and grasp Kelly as a person and head coach, with his past handlings with oregonization, internal decisions, and control issues, etc. The more I'm thinking we may have dodged a bullet here. Yes, we want points and a proven winner, etc. I get it. However, at what expense? Just seemed like he's the type to play games with other people's money and is a control freak. Maybe Philly fans know something we don't, and we were too blind to see due to our Orange and Blue glasses and desire to return this program to the top again. I'll take pleasure in watching him squirm and squeal on the sidelines, and I suddenly became a Trojan fan; and I don't even wear condoms but I hope they go Raw Dawg on Kelly's teams. Yeah. I made those references. Or maybe this is my way of coping and accepting we suck. Hahaa! #GoGators
The 10 Day clause may have been related to the rumored $5M he was to get from SF. SS negotiated in good faith. CK did not.
Agree completely. I don't think SS is dumb enough to allow this to happen. I bet they had an agreement in principle, money, budget, etc and they shook on it (no pen to paper). Had a glass of champagne feeling great that they were done. Call it what you want but that is the game. I use to do it all the time as an agent.
There's a great Taggart post going on right now you guys may want to join in on. Lots of great info there.
Continue to sell the product or bail out and go home? I'd rather get the signature and stay in the game. Too many here are all emotion and no logic. Doesn't cost UF a thing to get CK's sig on such an agreement - especially when there was no one else to negotiate with in the interim.
Chip played UF in a game that has no business being played at this level. Stricklin is looking for somebody who can lead our team back to success. While that includes winning on the field, it also means having a guy with whom an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust can be established: to work in cooperation with the university administration, to raise these student athletes under the right value system and guiding principles and. . . . . drum roll please. . . . . to act responsibly and with integrity. If this asshole was this dishonest and deceitful, it sheds a whole new light on the circumstances under which he got into trouble to begin with. If this is indeed true, no way no how do I ever want someone like that representing our university and leading our student athletes. Up your ass Chip Kelly Go Gators
Hard to believe he gave an opt out AND wasn’t aware Kelly was talking to UCLA If he didn’t know I’d assume SS would ask CK, “why the opt out window? You must not be committed to the job” He gave him the chance to talk to UCLA and they won him over I’d have said look publicly we can’t afford to get rejected it’s now or never
I do not speak Spanish, but google translate is very good for understanding Ice Queen's exchanges. This "never ending thread" continues to be interesting.
Still not buying it, however if SS and UF’s legal team were played this bad UF is in bad shape and SS needs to resign, complete incompetence.
Meanwhile SS is telling us all to be patient, trolling Gator Nation on twitter. SS should have made him sign effective immediately, or move on. If his NFL contract was in play as reported, then essentially paying him a $5 mil "buyout" would have been cheap comparatively. Of course, if this report is true.
If Kelly did indeed ask for a 10 day opt, then he had no intention of coming here to begin with. He just wanted a contract to use as leverage. There was no point in staying in the game...should have been clear we were being used. Stricklin was a total fool to agree to this (again, if true).
