There is no insider reporting the contract is 300 pages. A poster on here said that and its pure bunk. Dont believe everything (anything) you read on the internet.
At this point, I wish we never made a play for Kelly, unless it was a done deal. Clearly Kelly is a good coach, but he seems a prima donna that will think he is bigger than the program. If any of these reports are true, I don't sense a full buy in from Kelly even if he comes. I want a coach that is excited to coach UF. Being a head coach to me is more than just a job. I liked when Urban was hired calling this his dream job, top of the mountain. I don't get that vibe at all from Kelly. I like Frost, but similarly, his heart seems to be with Nebraska if not at UCF. Why can't Stricklin just come out and say we met with Kelly, told him we want him as HC, made him a great offer. Then if we move to other candidates at least we know that we tried. Hopefully, if Kelly declines, he will talk to Frost and tell him to take the job.
All this UCLA smoke, whether true or not brings me back to Vilma's comment last week... “You know what, he’s probably working on me getting the LB position,” said Vilma jokingly. “I am going to be the linebackers coach with him. UCLA, Florida somewhere. It’s going down. He won’t spill the beans but it’s going down.” He was joking but it shows that Chip had UCLA on the radar early on. Sounds like a bidding war and Chip is using this to get whatever he wants.
It's all about timing and and interest. You have serendipitous events with Meyer (an OSU alum) and Harbaugh (a Michigan alum) in a position to take those jobs. When John Cooper was fired at OSU, Jim Tressell was about number 5 on the list. He was a division 2 coach who no one outside of Ohio had ever heard of before. Michigan struck out with Rich Rod and Brady Hoke. So you have to be careful cherry picking 2 of the 3 greatest coaches of all-time here. It doesn't mean we aren't elite.
I don’t necessarily see them as aggressive. UCLA fired their coach and POSSIBLY reached out to CK along with other potential candidates. CK with a short window MAY have listened to what they had to say and I would not fault him. Wouldn’t you explore options and perform due diligence? Bottom line is we are all speculating on the process. UF could have been very aggressive and reached an agreement in principle. The time consuming part was the negotiating and vetting. Things UCLA or any other school would have to do as well. They did not meet with him one day and come away with an agreement.
I think that "we" the Florida Gators, probably have this locked up, as we are far ahead in the search....UCLA came along, but they came late to the party.... - Thinking about my GGrl....
Yes but maybe someone with a better memory can remind me when that’s happened because it ain’t coming to me.
Charles 'Chip' Kelly will be the next head football coach of the Florida Gators. The only thing left to argue is when the official announcement will take place.
The Spun: Florida Could Make “Crazy” Offer To Scott Frost 8 million a year. Wonder if this is complete BS. Seems a little desperate. On the positive note, Scott definitely isn't cheap if he would offer Frost that much. Chip's offer must be that high too then.
Saw a report that Chip went to UCLA. If we had to go to him but he went to them, what does that mean?
