I've had it a couple of times (wife is Japanese)... it's remarkably bland. There is no poison in the meat, only the liver and the ovaries are dangerous so the numbing is just urban myth, or maybe placebo, but there is no sensation from eating it, unless the chef screwed up and accidentally cut the poisonous areas and it got on the meat.

But the texture is interesting and that's why they like it. The chefs cut it so thin each piece is actually transparent. But I don't think you're missing much flavor wise.

Good kicker important? - yes.

But I'd trade that in for touchdowns and only 2 point conversions right now in a heartbeat.
