That was likely Leahy. His first name was Bob and he was an elderly man from Los Angeles who greatly admired Frank Leahy. He liked to accumulate points and green stripes and stars when enough positive points were accumulated. He called it the 'Rep game' and got ridiculously angry with some Pub regulars when they refused to join in his 'run up the score' scheme. One of the reasons some GC members have large numbers in the ratings - likes and trophies - is because those Rep points became 'Ratings Received' when the former ratings system changed to what we have now. Leahy stopped posting after the system switch, but I think some of that was due to him being a very old man and his physical condition. He and I exchanged a few emails after he stopped posting and he told me he was hospitalized at the time. He had been in a serious auto accident some months before and was hospitalized the 2nd time for sustained injuries. He also admitted he was unable to personally do his own posting so his wife had been keying and posting what he told her to write even before the accident.
Naphta certainly and the creation of the friendly competitive site with PD and others. Franz and his epic poem of why he (and all of us) hate UGA. The original Thanksgiving at Saban's. Swampie. The guy that wrote a book on Urban and the feud between him and Franz. He was pretty awful. Brock vs Jesse; for my money the original QB controversy on GC. He's got a Daddy too. Firing Hoke. Repeatedly. JHC I spend and have spent too much time here!!
Resisting the masses on the all out Hoke assault. Ghetto's undercover screen name and character as "recruiting insider". Funniest thing I ever saw here. Lydell Ross joining us in the chatroom Domigator and his wife Gator Goddess Instigator going off the rails Wheeler Coach Squeek
Steve Shipp being a 5 star WR from Charlotte and reportedly running a 4.4 40....showing up in Gainesville for the 1st practice and running a 4.9 40.
Exactly. I really liked what he posted, but he got a little carried away with the points thing. I am sorry to hear about his accident and his health.
I miss Vanders. She was really a Pub poster. She encouraged me to come over to the pub after the guys mauled as a newbie in the Den. I created a facebook page so have little time for that and the Pub.
The 10 days after SOS quit we the worst part of our marriage, per my wife, because I was on GC perhaps 15 hours a day.
The story about Mike Shula visiting Tim Tebow’s home on a recruiting trip and saying I knew I was in trouble when I drove up to the house and saw the GATOR MAILBOX in front of their house.
Leahy was a trip. He'd hunt you down if you 'forgot' to re-rep him, or just if he felt like you should. He really embraced the role of Rep Godfather. Agree with mama, too...miss seeing Vanders and Flip around these parts.
Winner. During the 2007 Final Four. I think that pissed off so many people that he was banned for a while. Hated that, and still bring it up when he shows up on the basketball boards to bitch about something.
Watching Spurs kick that FG to beat Auburn. Watching Wilbur Marshall beat USCw & many more in the Swamp. Watching 3 years of Emmitt Smith. Spurs coming to UF. Winning the Sugar Bowl to beat down the Noles for our 1st NC. Beating GA at night in the Swamp. Underdog Gators Beating the Noles with 2 QB's, Quessie & Fred Taylor in the Swamp. Watching 4 years of Tebow & those 2 great NC. Blocking that USCe FG to win out. So many more that I can't name them all!
I forgot the Fab 5 back to back round ball, the Girl Softball NC's. plus the Baseball NC. Track NC too. So many more!
As an IT guy I can appreciate the challenges when your server is pounded with a huge spike is demand. And signing eve and day was so high that the servers would sometimes crash lol! You know we're a rabid bunch at GC! Ray was always there to get us back to our "minute by minute fix". A lot of fun every year.
Gator Princess was the one who wanted Jetpacks and Laser Beams. She was ridiculued pretty bad and it became a punch line. Was used for every recruiting tactic and half time show the next several years. Swampcritter sharing news overheard at Nick Saban's table for thanksgiving. Now I'm sure those have already been said but I don't have the time to go through the thread at the moment so please forgive me. My biggest moment on here was breaking a Lito Sheppard suspension for weed. I think that thread was close to 100 pages. I'll tell the grandkids about it.
