Question:

Hypothetically speaking; if we were to hire a coach this week, any ol' coach, not sure who; at what time and in what capacity would said coach be able to contribute to the program?

I don't expect this mysterious coach to start calling plays and coaching this team, but what would the NCAA allow this coach to do in terms of recruiting, access to football offices, planning, mapping out future / roster, etc?

Under my kitchen sink there's a plastic tub with cleaning supplies in it, and in the tub is an old plastic CJ's cup where I put my worn-out toothbrushes when I'm done with them, to use them for cleaning.

I'm just putting this out there because it's important for our coaching search discussion.

 

I believe the date that they can start recruiting, assembling staff, etc is Nov. 26th - hopefully someone else on the board can confirm that.

 

I’m not an expert but it depends on the coach and their current situation.

The only coach we’d hire before the season is over is one that isn’t a coach currently, so let’s say Kelly. He would likely jump in on recruiting (unless it’s forbidden?) but not help with the coaching for the last 1 or 2 games.

For coaches at current programs we would only hire after the regular season is over, likely after any conference championship but before bowl season. Depending on how their current program views the conflict of interest they could be kept on or dismissed, but most candidates were looking at aren’t from within the SEC so I’d think they would coach through their bowl game (Frost). They likely would do some recruiting for us but not much else until the new year.

If they get dismissed then you’ll see them hit the ground running immediately. Which is what would happen with a Mullen kind of coach I’d assume (which I find to be a doubtful and expensive hire).

In any scenario they won’t be coaching one minute of the last 2 games.

Personally, I agree with you. I haven't followed the NFL in years. I have just lost interest in it, for some of the reasons you stated. But all the while I haven't been following, it has gotten bigger and bigger and has turned into an entertainment money minting machine monster. So obviously most people out there don't feel the way I (or apparently you) do.

 

I would love for Tennessee to grab Frost.

 

I graduated in 1964. The Florida Theater was simply first-run movies all week. You could often find me either there or at the downtown newsstand looking through the girlie mags in back.
