And Lyons hasnt proven to be able to stay on tge field as of yet. Shivers may be able to get in tgat rotation
Optimistic is a strange way to look at that. Having a true freshman in the rotation out of necessity is optimism.
To be fair to Lyons it was one season ending injury. He was healthy as a RFR and productive. For the rotation there's the two deep, then depth and situational rotations. Shivers, Taylor and Brown are in that mix.
Talor has done not much so far. Two freshmen that may be good but havent played a down. Lyons may have been a freak injury and he may play 50 snaps a game. If he doesnt though. Boireau moves to oneand you have Shivers and Brown and the transfer who gas limited experience. Lyons staying healthy is huge and we are only projecting him as a legit sec tackle. If he goes down or isnt all we hope he is, we get very young and thin.
Lyons was a legit SEC DT in 2023. Taylor was a JUCO and had a productive first year with UF. This is a good group behind Banks. If you want to see a group that wasn't good behind a top DT look at UFs 2022 DL behind Dexter.
We’ve been speculating over his lack of play in 2024, but no one seems to be focusing on the report from Andrew Spivey above… Someone mentioned he played sparingly in 2023, but he was a true freshman and just to have these stats he did his first year impresses me - a lot.
Lyons was a true freshman tgat did decent in 23 and was suppose to start last year. Hope is what we have, not a returning starter and he has no history of being able to handle the workload. I hope he does stay healthy because we get very thin is he goes down again. We arent even certain if hes going to be good enough to keep Boureau behind him. Theres Banks and no other proven guys. We could be really good or really bad.
