They beat Auburn yesterday and Texas A&M just this Sunday morning 4-1, in match play. I didn’t want this bit of wonderful news to be buried behind other super hot subjects that have rolled past their please sell by date on the first page, such as these gems: 1. Funny quotes by Steve Spurrier after losing to UT by a ton in 1990..”hey looks like I made a mistake by putting EVERY PLAYER on defense in today.” 2. CBN has challenge trying to prevent team overconfidence approaching the upcoming football season…”we have never been here before. The assistant coaches are busy explaining .500 does not mean every player is getting a $500 bonus. Scores of lawyers have descended upon their clients in the earnest hopes that 84 players do not hit the portal in May, in their disillusionment. 3. April 2 ..here is my starting lineup in basketball for 2025 season…poster name withheld by request..Aberdeen, Hauch, Brewer, Horford, Green. I am not confident any other players like Mike Miller, who still have eligibility remaining to come back. I have all this from MEL KIPER’s college basketball site, so it is just an informed guess at this time.
Thanks for posting this. That makes 50 overall national titles for Florida I think. Outstanding Spring performance with the Lady Gator Softball team in the race for another
Great news! So tired of our golf team not leading the way going all the way back Doug Sanders, Frank Beard and so many others. I still marvel over our golf team during tenure of Gary Koch, Andy Bean (Philips per Buster Bishop), Mike Sullivan, Fred Ridley and so many others. My fraternity brother, Chip Lutz, remained an amateur and went on to win four (4) US Senior Opens, one British Senior Open as well as the Canadian Senior Open. He lost his scholarship to Title 9!
But winning the SEC these days is a big deal when you examine the number of successful PGA Tour players, who played SEC golf! I guess I am sentimental but Florida's leadership in golf nationwide was an assumption. I do not understand what Alabama or Georgia can offer over Florida golf, particularly when all these guys ultimately live here and specifically PB County...
Well you are correct! I wonder what it will take to get a world-class golf facility in Gainesville so as to allow our Gators to ascend to the natural number one position in the country? The 1923 Donald Ross track suffers from a certain number of deficiencies, notwithstanding its renovation. The corresponding practice facilities likely are not at the highest level. It would be interesting to compare the facilities of the other SEC schools and implement a gallant effort to reclaim what should be ours. Go Gators!
The University should have considered purchasing Gainesville Golf and Country club while it was for sale. They could have used the current golf course property for campus expansion…..
Paynes Prarie! Big Gators! It is hard to believe that the Gainesville area in combination with the University of Florida cannot establish a world-class golf facility. Does anyone have news of this situation changing?
They are exploring a new course W of 1-75 off of Parker Rd. (way out West). The first iteration of the plan didn't pass county planning muster, but I believe the revised plan with UF's backing will either make it through or already has. Lee property special area study approval could mean a UF golf course 8 Alachua County developments progressing in 2025
I would hate for them to destroy a really nice Golf course that was designed by a noted course designer. It would be better IMO to keep it and operate it for University community students, staff, etc. than to mess up such a nice piece of property. The homeowners that abut the property in Golfview might take exception to developing it into general University campus as well since their property values would be impacted. Another thing I like about it is that it is a very walk able since it is so compact in nature.
