They all had co-parents here and the officials did not allow the mothers to communicate with their lawyers or the fathers. No mother would take her kid receiving cancer treatment out of the country without meds and cut off treatment. These officials are liars— just like the rest of this administration. That’s why you have to give due process. Especially to children who are citizens.

They never had a hearing. Nw ICE adjudicates parent child issues? Usually there is time sharing. But in this instance, a court would decide what is in the best interests of the child— if there is a dispute between the parents. Better to send a child with stage 4 cancer being treated here to another country without meds? The answer is a no brainer. ICE doesn’t recognize these kids as citizens. They follow Trump’s illegal birthright order

your question answers itself. There was no court hearing. No process at all. No guardian allowed to speak for the children—US citizens deported. The father not allowed to have his interests or the children’s hears. This country bears the shame of this. And it is shameful

I hope the fathers bring a Bivens action for damages against the government for deporting their children

Not to get off topic but we're at the point where the party of Christianity is disparaging the pope because he holds some views that contradict Trump's. The world is upside down.

I do. They just like the "ordinary Germans" who cheered as members of my wife's family were "deported" out of Poland some time ago.

Deport violent criminals here without paperwork? Please. Deporting women with US citizen children? Why? How about we focus on securing the borders going forward instead of deporting US citizens with cancer. Focus resources on actually reducing violent crime and making America a better place to live.

I see you also ignored this in your rush to justify these inhumane policies.

Willis says ICE’s refusal to allow the women to talk to their lawyers meant there was no way to verify whether that was true in these cases.

“We have absolutely no idea whether they ever actually did give consent for their children to come with them or if they did under what kind of duress and what other options were presented to them,” Willis said.

Once again, how you do things is as important as what you do. Unfortunately, these actions appear to be happening swiftly because they know they will lose in court.

Given a choice to "opt" to take them or leave them behind what would you choose?
Continuing to try to defend the scum by parroting what told. Sad
Like the Russian election in Crimea...they had a choice

MAGA is what MAGA has become. I won't bother to characterize it, because we can all see it.

It sure is sad and disappointing though. MAGA is enabling has enabled Trump to remake America in his image. Winning, I guess.

    Since we have always had a blueprint for how Trump 2.0 plays out -inhumanity, dishonesty, and criminality- the more interesting parts are predicting the future;
    - will MAGA pretend they didn't enable and tolerate what we saw them enable and tolerate?
    - will America ever recover its decency after Donald Trump?

Idk why anyone keeps expecting these people to care about deportations. Of any kind. They won’t care until it impacts them personally in some way.

Another interesting thing about all of Trump's immigration "policy" is that despite all of the dubiously legal inhumanity ...... after four years, we'll still have approximately 11-14 million undocumented people in our country, will have no improved work documentation policy, and maybe at best we'll have deported sent to foreign prisons a few thousand people of whom some are criminals and some are not criminal in any documented way.

The blueprint for failure on immigration was clear all along, and now we clearly get to see it happen fail. Did we honestly expect anything better from someone whose biggest idea was to tell us lie to us that immigrants were eating dogs and cats?

They were likely told that they take the children with them immediately, or ICE will release the children outside the facility on their own and whatever happens is on their mothers. ICE = Modern Day Brown Shirts.

According to a spokesman from the ACLU the parents of the children had made arrangements for a guardian to take custody of the children in the event that she was deported. She and the children were held incommunicado by ICE and were denied access to their attorney.
The court battle ignited Thursday, when lawyers for the family filed an emergency petition in the Western District of Louisiana seeking V.M.L.’s immediate release from ICE custody and a declaration that the girl’s detention had been unlawful. The petition was filed under the name of Trish Mack, who the lawyers indicated had been asked by V.M.L.’s father to act as the child’s custodian and take her home from ICE custody.

Lawyers for the guardian told the court that V.M.L.’s father had been attempting to contact the girl’s mother to discuss plans for their child but ICE officials denied him the chance to have a substantive phone call. He says ICE allowed the two to speak for about one minute on Tuesday, while the mother was in ICE custody, but that they were unable to make any meaningful decisions about their child.

The choice is supposed to be about the well-being of the child. Hard to argue that removing a child with stage 4 cancer away from medical treatment is exactly in the best interest of the child. Regardless, that seems like the type of thing the judicial branch is supposed to determine. That is why due process is important.

But sure, now we likely condemned a childhood cancer patient to death because of immigration law and the fact that your preferred political figure thinks that due process is inconvenient. Hooray?

I can’t leave the country with my kids without their mother, a written authorization from her, or court order; none of which is present here. That’s just travel. What do you think happens in the case of residency determinations? What you are claiming is a custody determination which is also made by the courts.
