What’s the prevailing opinion on why Sanders has been passed over in the draft? I’m guessing this is being hotly argued over on TH, but can there be a purposeful discussion on this board?
It's the drama, anyone drafting Shedeur is basically saying "we will fire our coach and name his dad head coach by December"
I agree the drama probably does have an impact, but NFL owners/GMs will draft literally anyone if they truly believe they can win games with them. I think Sanders is overrated.
Leaving his skill set out of it, it's the circus that travels with him and his perceived lack of focus solely on football that have turned teams in need of a franchise QB off. Just look at the last 24hrs. He is still pushing his brand, "Legendary" while waiting to get drafted. The Giants saw this and in a media town like NY, SS would never be truly focused on football. Where as Dart most likely will be learning the playbook starting on Monday.
Thanks y’all - I haven’t been following this year’s MFL draft at all - don’t even know how our Gators have done so far - so I’ve been intrigued with all the talk about SS missing out on the first 2 rounds.
Pretty surprised to see he has not been selected. I’m not second guessing what pro scouts see or don’t see in him, so this will interesting to see how this plays out.
It’s a combination of his circus act plus lack of arm strength. You can have baggage if you’re a freak athlete but he’s a mediocre athlete and acts like he’s already a HOF. In the NFL, having a weak arm will definitely make it difficult to succeed. It can be done if you have the discipline to study the game and play smart, but it appears he’s shown teams he thinks he already knows it all and his arrogance makes teams think he has no work ethic. Just my opinion, but the media has hurt him with the hype. They did the same thing with Caleb williams (who is a much better player) and got a head coach fired when Caleb didn’t live up to his hype. The media never once questioned ‘maybe caleb just isn’t the second coming after all?’. It was always ‘the bears organization is mishandling his talent!’. Why would you draft someone the media already crowned as a god when they aren’t that good, knowing it will kill your career when he isn’t the next Mahomes? Lastly, nobody wants to deal with daddy’s bs. It’s awesome he won the national championship at Colorado and everything and they’re gonna win it again this year etc but at the end of the day he’s a helicopter dad with a lot of pull and businessmen feel shedeur isn’t worth the drama.
I think a lot of it is not wanting to have the Sanders circus brewing in the background of your team. It is like the NFL version of Lonzo Ball and his daddy.
Shedeur is certainly good enough to have been drafted already. Drafting Dillon Gabriel (Practice Squad at best player) over him says there is something else going on.
It’s a weak QB class. Sanders is one of the top 3 in that weak class but would be a 5/6 qb in most classes. Now add in the media circus, his dad interjecting his opinions, and the FACT his camp strongly hinted he wouldn’t play for certain teams and it quickly becomes tough to draft him highly. No team wants the distraction and circus that comes with SS for someone that is likely a back up for at least a few years .
I think the kid has been given poor advice for about a year now that he's a first round pick. Even though most draft experts were saying the opposite, based on conversations with the guys who are actually involved in scouting and making picks. His father then made a big deal about him not playing for certain organizations. When he did that, Shadeur was basically being advised he didn't have to impress anyone in the interview process. He was never a top 4 pick but he entered the process believing he was. He blew off people, even to the extent of not taking criticism and telling a GM maybe you shouldn't draft me then when questioned about a bad read during a game. He is a kid, and he has been advised poorly by his father and those in his inner circle. Once he is drafted, be ready for the flood of, he's more motived than anyone to prove everyone wrong Yada Yada. We will have to hear about that for the next 2 months.
Shedeur Sanders ripped by anonymous coach before NFL Draft: 'The worst formal interview I’ve ever been in in my life' Add to this that Dasdy told certain teams not to draft him in a year where it’s a limited number of teams with a high level need, the circus that comes with daddy, the divergence between his actual talent and his fawning fan base’s view (which so good but not great), and why would you take all that on?
Of course it doesn’t help Shedeur when he’s got the loudmouth president voicing his unwanted opinion and calling teams dumb for not taking him.
