On Monday, Bloomberg noted that China's purchases of liquefied natural gas, or LNG, dropped to zero in March -- and the imports were frozen before the tariffs kicked in. "Overall delivery of US LNG shipments in the first quarter of 2025 fell by 70 percent, according to Chinese official custom data released on Sunday. The hiatus is the longest since the last trade war triggered during U.S. President Trump’s first tenure, when China didn’t receive cargoes for about 400 days," Bloomberg reported. "The geopolitical conflict is once again decoupling the world’s largest LNG buyer and seller. An escalation in mutual tariffs has led China to impose a 125 percent tariff on all U.S. goods, turning to Indonesia and Qatar for supplies."
Don’t beleive everything you read. look at Cheniere (LNG) and forward guidance. Do you think Australia will step in? What about UAE? Australia supplies 1/3 of China LNG imports.
On the flip side, that means we're also no longer selling LNG to China hurting our domestic companies and we're also unable to import plastics. It's a matter of who will tolerate the most suffering for their own companies and citizens, and does anyone actually think that the US is willing to outlast China in that regard?
No one "suffers" inconvenience more deeply than Americans. I cant imagine us outlasting anyone on anything that requires real suffering.
That is a pretty dumb opinion article. As the article briefly touches on before throwing away with no evidence, they will switch to buying from companies in countries that aren't engaged in a trade war with them. Then, when they produce the plastics they will sell to other countries in which they aren't engaged in a trade war (at slightly elevated prices due to lower competition- a huge boon). Meanwhile, we have no customer for that product in which we aren't engaged in a trade war and we don't have access to the finished product, raising our costs of purchasing the finished product.

The problem is, even under the most favorable conditions of China and the factories restarting economic ties as though nothing happened, it will be at least another 30 days before economic activity is revived. And that’s just in LA. In Chicago/Houston, you’ll need to wait another 45 days. New York, at that point, will still be getting containers from before April 10th, they will then have 50 days (May 31 minus April 10) of zero economic activity at the ports, in trucking of Chinese goods, in warehousing. The whole situation is a bit like lockdowns. Once you shut down, it takes a long time to get economic activity back to where it was, if you ever can. And again, this assumes, that China and its factories, which make things you can’t buy elsewhere, will start right back up again as though nothing happened, which is unlikely.

Any guesses what happens if these goods dont start moving? First you have to make up all the freight in that circle just to catch up and then you have to take in that giant peak we should be in. Its called high freight rates, delays. Covid all over again. This will all go into your costs.
