Well, this is interesting .... China Plastics Industry Faces Reckoning as World Realizes It Depends on Critical US Export According to the Singapore Business Times, plastic factories across China might come to a halt as "[t]he world's dominant plastics manufacturer" is now forced to go without a critical ingredient in production, which it mostly gets from the United States. On Monday, Bloomberg noted that China's purchases of liquefied natural gas, or LNG, dropped to zero in March -- and the imports were frozen before the tariffs kicked in. "Overall delivery of US LNG shipments in the first quarter of 2025 fell by 70 percent, according to Chinese official custom data released on Sunday. The hiatus is the longest since the last trade war triggered during U.S. President Trump’s first tenure, when China didn’t receive cargoes for about 400 days," Bloomberg reported. "The geopolitical conflict is once again decoupling the world’s largest LNG buyer and seller. An escalation in mutual tariffs has led China to impose a 125 percent tariff on all U.S. goods, turning to Indonesia and Qatar for supplies."
Don’t beleive everything you read. look at Cheniere (LNG) and forward guidance. Do you think Australia will step in? What about UAE? Australia supplies 1/3 of China LNG imports.
On the flip side, that means we're also no longer selling LNG to China hurting our domestic companies and we're also unable to import plastics. It's a matter of who will tolerate the most suffering for their own companies and citizens, and does anyone actually think that the US is willing to outlast China in that regard?
No one "suffers" inconvenience more deeply than Americans. I cant imagine us outlasting anyone on anything that requires real suffering.
That is a pretty dumb opinion article. As the article briefly touches on before throwing away with no evidence, they will switch to buying from companies in countries that aren't engaged in a trade war with them. Then, when they produce the plastics they will sell to other countries in which they aren't engaged in a trade war (at slightly elevated prices due to lower competition- a huge boon). Meanwhile, we have no customer for that product in which we aren't engaged in a trade war and we don't have access to the finished product, raising our costs of purchasing the finished product.
Ukraine/Russia - Still at war Israelis are continuing their Palestinian genocide No trade deals have been announced and China says there are no current negotiations Lumber prices are higher than when Diamond Joe took office Where is the art of the deal?
Walmart, Home Depot, and Target CEOs laid out the risk to the president. Not sure where the Charlotte local big time CEO for Lowes was. They said a rep would be there but didnt make it. Regardless, the words "empty shelves" were used. Top CEOs Warn Trump Tariffs Will Empty Store Shelves “The big box CEOs flat out told him the prices aren’t going up, they’re steady right now, but they will go up,” an administration official familiar with the meeting told Axios. “And this wasn’t about food. But he was told that shelves will be empty.” According to a separate official briefed on the meeting, Trump was told that if he doesn’t change course, the impact could be noticeable in as little as two weeks. The CEOs words seemed to have some sway on the president. The following day, Trump told reporters that tariffs on China will “come down substantially” from his previously announced 145% rate.
A very good summary of the supply chain impact from the CEO of Viahart if you expand the tweet below. The problem is, even under the most favorable conditions of China and the factories restarting economic ties as though nothing happened, it will be at least another 30 days before economic activity is revived. And that’s just in LA. In Chicago/Houston, you’ll need to wait another 45 days. New York, at that point, will still be getting containers from before April 10th, they will then have 50 days (May 31 minus April 10) of zero economic activity at the ports, in trucking of Chinese goods, in warehousing. The whole situation is a bit like lockdowns. Once you shut down, it takes a long time to get economic activity back to where it was, if you ever can. And again, this assumes, that China and its factories, which make things you can’t buy elsewhere, will start right back up again as though nothing happened, which is unlikely.
LOL. Italian Prime Minister gives praise to Trump but cant control here body language and eye rolling. Too funny.
Would disagree about the greatest generation. The last 5 generations after (Boomers, Gen X, Gen Y, Gen Z, and Gen Alpha) are soft (including me). Gen Beta (2025) are the Pete Heggy warriors though.
His handling of the tariffs so far remind me of the hurricane map he updated with marker during his first term. Just making stuff up as he goes and he doesn't know what he is talking about. That clip of him ranting with the Italian PM? I really don't know what to say anymore....
Any guesses what happens if these goods dont start moving? First you have to make up all the freight in that circle just to catch up and then you have to take in that giant peak we should be in. Its called high freight rates, delays. Covid all over again. This will all go into your costs.
Holy shit, that was awesome. I wish I had a transcript of that! It's just impossible to imagine a grown adult actually voting for that buffoon. Astounding. (Scroll right by that one, MAGA. You won't like it. You can more easily pretend your guy's not a total dipshit if you don't see it.)
So, what you are saying is, Trump made it Christmas everyday, delivering on his promises to evangelists.
No border wall. No 51st state. No Gaza Riviera. No Greenland. On the other hand, he has taken care of the straw situation, renamed the Gulf of Mexico, banned books, and purged the government of "undesirables."
amazing. Commie Donnie bragging as if he's the 1st person to raise tax revenue by taxing the shit of his own people.
