As a Kentucky fan, are you 100% for this pickup or do you have concerns? Zel was a good role player but I have mixed feelings on his abilities as a full time starter.

Just my $.02 - I think he would have been one heck of a starter under Golden at UF. At UK, he will be in a new environment with all new players, a new system, and be facing more competition for a starting role. According to some, he has very little chance at earning a starting role at UK. With all of those factors against him + high fan expectations, the mental part of the game may be a struggle.

He made his bed and will have to sleep in it. Perhaps adding a cooling layer of cold hard cash will provide him some comfort as the reality of his decision sets in

He sparke the comecack when Clayton went to the bench. The whole team got invoved instead of waiting for Clayton to do something. Screw that guy and Kentucky.

Can’t speak for Jeff but most fans and UK media that have been following the roster progression were really just looking to add one more guard who could shoot 3’s consistently. It appears we got a lot more than that, which I really like. If he’s our best player, we won’t be in the kind of position I’m hoping for next year. But I personally don’t care what he was paid and I trust the coaches to handle the dynamics around that.

If he's not going to start, why pay him all that (supposed) money to play there...and why go to a school that didn't just win the NC to come off the bench when you can be a starter here? Seems a couple things that aren't quite adding up. The idea that he is being paid to not play for the Gators comes to mind. UK with their deep pockets might become the new Yankees. Biggest payroll and still can't win.

Why not pay him? It’s Monopoly money given that it’s a bunch of rich fans vanity project. There is no salary cap. UK needed a backup PG and got a great one.

Great take. And unfortunately, what you have brought up has two sides of the coin. Once you realize all we are doing is paying mercenaries for an effort (and perhaps results) to live vicariously through their superior talents and they don't meet our standards, we have the RIGHT (yes, that is the correct word to use) to boo OUR team for poor results/actions. And I recall instances where the audience booed what was happening on the field. The most famous for us Gators was Tebow's freshman season when Leak was ineffective running the ball when it was needed and we implicitly knew a better option was on the sidelines.

But who and what we were booing was Meyer and the coach's decision rather than a young player (Leak) doing probably as good as he could (he was a stylish ER surgeon and not a M.A.S.H. patch and ship guy). That aspect is no longer a given. You pay good money for a professionally designed product and if you don't get what you paid for, you may not receive a discount or refund. But you have the right to voice your opinion.

And so, young men (and maybe even women) are no longer going to be coddled for their lack of motivation or acumen. They can and WILL be held in contempt. Not a very pretty picture, is it?

Now that you are less "fan-like" and more discerning, can you see where the biggest issue wasn't that Cal began to lose his "favorite general manager" status at the Kentucky Country Club (a latter-day version of Tubby Smith) but rather a repudiation of the incompetence of Billy Gillespie in that pressure cooker and what the "faithful" saw was a national organized crime boss who somehow was just released from Federal prison for white-collar crimes (why is stealing a few measly million dollars considered bad???) and wanted to "get back into the business" and so...

UMass and Memphis did not give you or anyone a sense of pause? Really?

I do not know what Pope will do with the legacy. He seems to "get it", although he still needs some seasoning. Will the Kentucky faithful give him the time, or are they going to wait until Bill Self or Will Wade suddenly become available...at a price?

Sorry I, um, "overwhelmed" you with rhetoric of the anecdotally factual nature. Can I at least assist you to poke your head out of your shell for a bit? I mean since this is a UF forum, basketball related, and we all seem to be supporters and fans of UF basketball and allow (really embrace) good posters and posting of rival team fans' perspectives, as long as they realize this is a UF site and not their teams' site.

Take each point I have made and either accept the premise, if not begrudgingly, or make a counter argument that provides us either real facts or conflicting anecdotal information to enlighten us. And you will be held to a higher standard than before. Really, isn't this what a forum such as this is designed? Or do you prefer the old "circle jerk" methods like they have in other sites like Warchant? I presume you are a UF alumnus and so you DO have a brain that functions somewhat. Am I correct? Or are you SO busy doing important stuff that you just don't have the time to educate and motivate us less-than-ideal posters who somehow make a mess of everything noble?

So, let this reply be a push to get you to open up your brain to concepts that are different than what you seem to embrace. Or is that outside your purview? You seem to embrace whatever negative appears in the horizon rather than embrace the positives (question, did at any time during the entire basketball season you feel joy about what you were witnessing?), but you are in fine company. Plenty of posters in NBN do exactly the same. But you seem to want things "your way" throughout the year rather than only during game threads or just after losses.

Does that make me superior? nope. Just that I embrace the passing of ideas and philosophies rather than attempts to manipulate everyone's concepts and motivations. About the only ones I can imagine who want to do the manipulation thing are either a petulant child whose parents have coddled them or they are FSU alumni who couldn't into UF and have been fighting their demons ever since. If you are the latter, then I am truly sorry. And I WILL have fries with my Bic Mac. And if you are the former, I think you need to see your mother because I think you have a boop in you pants.

Now, did this give you enough of a rise for you to stop acting so sanctimonious and adding some real content? And I do hope the mods allow these sort of passive-aggressive comments for your and our benefits. Because all I can say in my defense is...

    Have a good day.

Yeah, I had some double expresso this morning.

I prefer he takes the bait and rises to the occasion. But if he prefers to slink out and remain unposting because he isn't given the respect he "deserves" then that isn't the worse scenario out there. I just find the perpetual negative nellies and/or drive-by shooters to be a bore and a chore. Being discerning is NOT the same as being a sunshine pumper.

Nothing wrong with embracing the positive, as long as it falls short of "Wow, that is one NICE ship, the Titanic. The band is playing EXCELLENT music!!!"

Well, it actually was a nice ship, and from what people recalled, the band did play well.

As a graduate, I do not have the luxury of choosing the ship, nor do I have the luxury of departing from it when the gunwales are awash.[IMG]
