my question was very specific.

My recollection in the past was your theory of the case was psychiatric meds were a cause. But instead of going down that rabbit hole again i figured I’d just let you answer the question.

I can’t speak to your motivations but in the past often those who are very defensive of gun rights declare that we have mental health issues, which can take the attention away from the gun issue.

But mental health issues can mean a lot of things and what to do about it is even more complex.

 

I think all males are more or less crazy in their late teens early twenties. Allowing them access to guns is crazy unless it’s a very controlled situation.

 

^^This. I generally fall against stereotyping and discriminating but I am open to treating all young men like criminal leppers.

 

The fact that you find his reasonable, articulate response to yours as being in the "anti-responsible-gun-regulation camp" is why people on both sides here find you unreasonable.

He didnt write the 2nd amendment. His stating of fact is just that.

If we want to amend it, so be it. Heck I would likely support sich efforts myself, but blasting those who live In the real world of the current makeup of the Constitution are by no means what you described.

1) "Articulate" does not equal "reasonable." Sorry.

2) The 2A does not distinctly allow, say, 18 year-olds to buy AR-15s. Or forbid training requirements. Or uniform, thorough background checks.

It's more likely that (some) people take offense to resistance to their peddling the same ole nonsense. It's unexpected because its worked for so long. WRT guns, the same-ole hasn't served us very well, has it?

But all the driving it saves me is a welcome thing!

When our daughters started driving it saved us about 150-200 miles a week in driving them to dance classes etc (4 nights a week and we didn't live close by)

Now our son plays 3 sports and is months away from a black belt. All we do is drive him places.

I imagine he will be a little more stressful with a license than his sister were.

 

He isn't word salading anything. He is quoting some legal precedent. He is giving you facts about how any change would have to happen legally.

He isn't saying there is no action that can prevent gun violence. In fact he literally said actions can be taken. I wonder why you ignored that part?

I don't like guns. But there isn't a magic wand that will make my view become the law.

He is talking about reality. It doesnt mean You of I like It, but it does mean it is reality.

Numerous regulations, or regulatory changes can be made. Perhaps you've noticed that there are different laws for firearms in different places?

That guy was trying to obfuscate behind the 2nd Amendment. That you seem content for our country to continue like that is disappointing, but it doesn't mean anyone else should be.

Hey look; some states permit an 18 year-old to buy an AR-15, but not all do. It's so strange! But the law doesn't permit us to make rational changes to gun law! (????)

Under federal law, Americans buying handguns from licensed dealers must be at least 21, which would have precluded the gunman from buying that type of weapon. That trumps Texas law, which only requires buyers of any type of firearm to be 18 or older.

Following Tuesday’s massacre at Robb Elementary School, which killed 19 children and two adults, a growing number of lawmakers in Texas and beyond are calling for the minimum age to purchase assault rifles to be raised to 21 from 18.

“It’s something that could happen at either the state or federal level, but I don’t see movement on either front,” said Sandra Guerra Thompson, a criminal law professor at the University of Houston Law Center.

 

^ How did these states change their laws? Crazy! It just can't be done!

Only six states — Florida, Washington, Vermont, California, Illinois and Hawaii — have increased the minimum purchase age for long guns to 21, according to the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence. The majority did so following the 2018 massacre in Parkland, Florida, where a then-19-year-old assailant killed 17 people at a high school.
