Actually we would be supporting a pro-Saudi faction that had been fighting the Houthis for years. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had been supporting them for years and we would be joining the Saudis. Not really a case of starting a new war but joining one in progress by supporting one of the sides.

He's not capable of understanding that without pictures. Way too complicated. Is there a cartoon version?

if true, that is no small attack

Ukrainian forces repel major Russian assault in Zaporizhzhya Oblast

The Russian assault group included at least 320 soldiers, 40 armored combat vehicles, three tanks, and about 10 buggies, drawn from several regiments of Russia’s 58th Combined Arms Army of the Southern Military District. The attack targeted the frontline near Pyatykhatky, Stepove, Lobkove, Mala Tokmachka, and Mali Shcherbaky in Zaporizhzhya Oblast.
    ......................................
Ukrainian air reconnaissance detected the enemy’s advance early, enabling drone and artillery strikes.

The first Russian vehicles were hit eight kilometers from the line of contact. The battle lasted over two and a half hours, with Ukrainian forces delivering continuous fire on the assault troops.

The Southern Defense Forces reported destroying 29 Russian combat vehicles and eliminating 140 enemy soldiers, while damaging three tanks. Ukrainian troops held all positions without losses, the report said.

Rubio already starting off with a disparaging comment. Is this setting the stage as we’re not serious on these meetings? This isn’t a deal on an embassy - it’s life and death of thousands and the future of a country.

Why not do this with Russia; because of Trumps appeasement of Putin?

“We’re not going to continue with this endevour for weeks and months on end,” Rubio told reporters in Paris after a grueling day of talks among U.S., Ukrainian and European officials in Paris.”

U.S. 'will move on' from Ukraine peace efforts if no progress within days, Rubio warns

Quite the move from "I will end this war within 24 hours" to "If Ukraine doesnt surrender we are out!"

Starting to think that Trumputin put Lidl' Marco in charge of State just to embarrass him.

Probably won't be long until Tucker Carlson is in charge.

It is a delicate balance trying to inflict enough damage on the Russia military and its supporting infrastructure supporting the front in Ukraine without escalating the conflict. The US is trying to get the Russians to the bargaining table because this conflict is in a stalemate but neither combatant wants to admit it. Ukraine is willing to make a deal but Russia is not at this point.

What I hope is happening here is Rubio is signalling to the Russians that if they do not come to the table very soon, all the targets around Rostov and Taganrog are going to be prosecuted with long range fires. Not to mention the rest of the Black Sea Fleet in the Western Black Sea.

Agree. That’s how I read it, too, especially given that the mineral rights deal has been signed. Russian intransigence (which was inevitable for anyone who has actually been paying attention) is at the root of the impatience that Rubio is signaling. The absolute best thing the Administration could do is say, “Well, we wanted peace. The Russians aren’t ready. They think they can win in the field. Best wishes. We will ask again this time next year if Russia is ready for peace.” Then crank up the economic and material assistance just one tick, followed by another twist of the knife every time Russia attempts to escalate in any way. That is the obvious move from a strategic perspective, so obviously that is the one thing we won’t do here.

Jake Sullivan says we gave Ukraine all the ATACMS we could afford to give them, hundreds in all, but they just haven’t made a difference in the war.

Where did Sullivan say that? Seeing as it would be in direct conflict with what Gen Cavoli testified to, I'm betting you are misunderstanding his meaning.

Said it in previous post, as long as Russia is making progress Putin will never agree to and/or comply with a ceasefire agreement much less an end to the war. Trump has the ability to end the war almost immediately. All he has to do is resume military aid to Ukraine at the same level as it was under Biden along with the threat to increase aid in both quality and quantity if Vlad doesn't agree to end Russian aggression. If Trump had real balls the war would be over in a week.

Agree with most of that except the “… as long as Putin is making progress part.” Because he isn’t, and that is not discouraging the intransigence at the moment. I think I would amend that language to “… as long as Putin can present the illusion of progress to his supporters …” And supporters in this case includes not only his own people in Russia but also stakeholders outside of Russia who, for one reason or another, resist the idea of Russian strategic defeat. To bring Putin to the table in the sense that you mean, an undeniable setback might be necessary. Something that would make even those stakeholders admit to themselves that Russia is not militarily capable of winning this thing. And to your main point, we could absolutely make that happen this year if it became our policy. In truth, knowing what we know now, Biden also could have made that happen two years ago.

News flash: Lee Harvey makes things up routinely, especially if it indicates that Ukraine is struggling in the war, or U.S. assistance is not helping. He will quote mentally-deranged liars when he can, and just make up things when those sources are not available, or he's too lazy to find out what they posted on X.

Things are getting ugly in Moscow's suburbs, where army recruitment officers are taking custody of military-age men in gyms. Putin is getting desperate to field enough troops to attempt to win this war, and risking the anger of people in outer Moscow. He's playing with fire . . . This could be the beginning of the end for Putin and Russia's chances in Ukraine.

Non-citizens caught up in the dragnet were given a choice between enlistment and deportation.

Russia snatches men from gyms in Putin’s new conscription drive

After the NYTimes story came out, it seemed logical that some news outlet would want to ask Sullivan about it, so I was hoping for a link.

Of course, I'm not a liberal. I am a conservative, and always have been. I'm just independent-minded enough to not vote for a criminal for president.

When you become a mature conservative capable of independent thought, be sure to let us know. Now run along.
