Pretty much all my UF spots: Congo Craig’s The Landing CJ’s Skeeter’s The Porpoise Balls Salty Dawg Joe’s Chaucer’s Mama Lo’s Ashley’s Pub Outback/Chili’s Bennigans Cedar Key Seafood
The visit is to the WHITE HOUSE, not to meet the President. That is and should be the honor, regardless who is in office
Congo Craig's holy shiite Muslims....that and the Florida Theater and Simons. A lot of fun times at the Porpoise too
Pretty Blue...probably the most consistently liberal blue county in FL since Bill Clinton was prez. Voting and Elections in Gainesville, Florida - GeoStat.org You are right that the more rural areas of the county are more conservative, but those are much lower population areas.
Its not even Gator City now. Home - MacDinton's Irish Pub A chain establishment like almost everything else
Just that Gainesville is and was largely a liberal, democrat city and at least in my time living here has never been considered Red or conservative although it has become more of the former and less of the latter as time has passed. It has nothing to do with the student population IMO which never turns out to vote except in the general presidential elections.
I could have been wrong. We got the student district to come out in droves as we turned the bill I was speaking of. Partying was a right they wanted lol. Of course as I said the redistricting or some would say gerrymandering fixed that up fast quick. Either way it was my only foray into politics and I’ve NEVER returned. In 97-98 or so it sure seemed that way to me. I could be and could have been wrong but we did replace the seat on the city council to vote with us for a year so we were successful. A little too successful.
My fraternity Big Brother and some seniors took a few of us noobs to The Red Lion to celebrate the end of the Rush Week we pledged in January 1979. First pickled egg I ever ate! Meh popcorn and big glass Budweiser pitchers. Sitting around those laminate tables with the guys, I felt like I was a man among men for the first time. I had quite forgotten that memory until I read the words Red Lion.
I didn’t like pizza until I had Shelly’s and they delivered to dorm rooms. Spent a lot of time at student union playing pool, ping pong, draft beer at the pub they had there (can’t recall the name) In later years, went to Nickels Alley and Lillian’s. In year 3, I lived in Windmeadows and walked over to pubs in Butler Plaza. Halcyon days!
Anyone on here remember Joe Mama’s Pizza? Around ‘90 or ‘91, $1.99 cheese pizzas (not slices). Another favorite was CJ’s nickel beer night on Tuesdays. Worst beer you’d ever drink but - it was a nickel.
Little Asher, Gatortail, primo burrito with refried beans and a bunch of sauces. Skeeters, Joe’s Deli, and Burrito Brothers. My three favorite spots. My daughter is at UF now and I like Dragonfly and Satchel’s, but definitely not the same.
I don’t think I remember that one, but loved Original Pizza Palace. Unfortunately, I believe it burned down
