I think we are seeing one of two scenarios:

    (1) Lagway has already had shoulder surgery and the coaching staff is keeping it under wraps (pun intended) and letting him recover to be 100% for the season and we potentially have a great season with a healthy DJ Lagway.

I sincerely hope this is the case. Or:

    (2) The coaching staff is taking their time, studying, analyzing, evaluating and working a process while the season gets closer with every passing day. Lagway takes the field playing with the possibility that one hit could end his season. And he will get hit, that is unavoidable. If that happens we go to backup QB and things go downhill from there.

The thing I ask myself is which scenario is more likely, the one that required quick and decisive action or the one that involves a drawn out deliberation process? History gives us a clue but hopefully they’ve done something out of character.

Either way, the potential for a disastrous season looms. First, seems his shoulder issue was a problem following the last game and has persisted. So, what was our plan B? Where is the insurance policy of getting a quality qb from the portal. The one we got has very very little game experience.
Secondly, has he even thrown prior to spring practice? How much practice through the summer if any? Will fall practice alone be sufficient to get in rhythm with our group of wr's? Keep in mind DJ has shown he is a very good qb, but he's going into his sophomore season. He is still learning as we have seen in his last game throwing a number of interceptions. He is far from being a polished qb and without sufficient reps it concerns me.
Now keep in mind UF showed improvement second half of last year. I believe DJ played a huge part with his play and how he seemed to motivated the team. If Uf loses half their games this year or worse, can he BN survive? That would mean 3 out of 4 years of bad football. It would seem bad judgements of retaining play calling and not preparing for plan b when the potential of DJ injury could linger. Therefore, could BN survive a losing season or not making a bowl?

It's DJ's shoulder. He has the ultimate say in how its rehabbed, whether it is through surgery or non-surgical means.

No top tier qb is coming to backup anyone. We roll with what we have. Stay healthy or we are screwed

"DJ's doing great. He'll start throwing here in a couple weeks," Napier said.

"We'll start OTAs in June, he'll be 100%. Everything's on schedule."

    Holy hypocrite, Batman!

CBN simpmly made a statement. I'm asking for clarification on why you thought that statement was optimistic.

There's literally no reason for Billy to lie about Lagway. If Lagway is hurt, he gets surgery and redshirts and we buy a one year QB. No way DJ's parents would allow anything not in his best interest. Plus you really think UF medical staff and Billy would do something that has potential for long term negative ramifications to a player? I don't. Say what you want about Billy, but he isn't that guy. Probably would even help Napier to buy another season if he did have to redshirt DJ this year.

Let's not forget that Trask was a backup. When Franks went down everyone said the same things they are saying here and Trask pulled out a great season. "In all kinds of weather" people.

Agree. The best bet is that all this is just an analytical approach to dealing with Lagway's nagging injury that I would expect is informed by expert medical advice. That is the answer but that doesn't mean there isn't any risk that the 2025 season could be a chit show. Also, there is risk that a lack of reps will hold Lagway back and cost us games. All that is possible but Billy and his staff have to know that no one will be cutting them slack. A bad season or significant doubt about their handling of this means they're gone. Billy has no margin in my opinion.

As it turned out, Trask should have been the starter, so expecting a similar to Lagway guy to step up is wishful thinking. Do we have anyone on roster as good as Lagway? Probably not. However, we had a decent season last year with few completions beyond 20 yards so really, we don't need that much arm for a QB to run this offense. Add to that we will likely have a much better run game this season which mitigates the need for a "big time" passing game.

From the Spring game, the bigger concern should be Defense- tackling and pass coverage- not the QBs.

I believe sierra was saying sierra was optimistic.

    By posting the word "Optimistic".

Like if I were to post just the word "Hopeful".

I am hopeful that Callaway‘s promotion to REAL offensive coordinator - and his promise to improve the passing game/routes - will translate into a more varied/less predictable scheme and much better utilization of our incredible wide receiver room.

I have only viewed some of the play by play videos released. Anyone know if our offense looked different, seemed more varied and less predictable?
