Sigh. Sad that in this era some people can't be glad that the highest office in the land will recognize our winning team. Regardless of the person, the office gives its due acknowledgment and it's a big deal for these young men to go to the White House.
Sports teams shouldn't be pressured to make political statements and alienate fans. Accepting a White House visit is not a political statement. It is the acceptance of an honor that is bestowed without regard to politics.
It’s an honor - looking forward to putting a bow on our unbelievable championship season. “When you ran out the healthy arms — you ran out of really healthy — they had great arms, but they ran out. It’s called sports. It’s called baseball in particular. And pitchers, I guess you could say, and really particular.”
why would it alienate fans? If a kid dont want to go they shouldnt have to..if that makes you not like them you are truly not a fan of the team nor player. I aint going to hate them if they go. I just prefer them not to.
It's an extremely unique opportunity in their lives. There are many things that you can buy in life, this isn't one of them. I would encourage any person regardless of their politics to take up such a unique offer - it can only be something that enhances you as an individual. There are literally no down sides to such a thing. To your point, if anybody didn't want to go, for sure, they shouldn't have to, but I would be extremely disappointed in anybody advising any of these kids not to go because it would be based on some imaginary idea of supporting a policy they might not agree with. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
again not trying to get too deep into here, but if a young man feels uncomfortable that is up to them and I would not lose any respect for them. No matter who the president is or was. I dont care who is in office
I think we're on the same page as far as that goes. I would have concerns if somebody were actively discouraging them from visiting. What would that level of motivation be? How would such a visit be harmful to the player's life experience? There would have to be a good answer for me to begin to entertain such a thought--or would somebody be projecting their own politics into the situation? The status quo is you encourage this sort of thing because it's a once in a lifetime opportunity. Just food for thought. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
I know a few players off the team and would not be surprised if they dont visit and I hope people respect their decisions, this is the type of banter that is needed and much appreciated in our society right now. I dont like people just hitting a not like or come on man button. Shows how tiny and narrow minded people can be..
Oh its definitely something you can buy. To make sure everyone understands that this is not a political statement, I'll bet that virtually every President has "sold" a visit the White House for a nice campaign donation. I agree completely with the rest of your post.
Kudos to posters in the thread for not veering into a food fight and keeping it as a thoughtful discussion.
might be once in a lifetime for you, but if they dont want to do it then who are you, me or anyone else to say anything about it. Yea I hope they turn it down, dont mean they will.
Who said they have to do it? You seem more worked up about this than anyone else and also seem to be personally invested in them not going. I don’t care if they go or not, but it’s an opportunity most (if not all) of them will not have again. You are by far the most narrow minded person posting on this thread. Now you’re giving out the same ratings you were just crying about.
With the current president, I don’t see why this would be a problem. We’re just lucky we didn’t win the title when the office was occupied by one of those jagoff presidents from the past, like Millard Fillmore.
