Trump used to pose as "John Barron" to pump and dump stocks, and spread favorable gossip rumors about the rapist Trump. The WaPo article's linked in here, paywalled. Hilarious stuff. Almost as funny as the idea that anyone would vote for that criminal fraud to be POTUS. https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo...-as-his-own-spokesman-refutes-audio-recording
Same moderator who locked the too hot jokes and laughs thread cause it was too mean to Trump? Shocker
If conservatives really want to improve pay and improve jobs for the working class why not simply support a higher minimum wage for jobs Americans are ALREADY doing? Why not support union labor protection laws so that the workers can get better pay and benefits for jobs they are already doing? If the plan is to tariff Americans (yes we pay tariffs) so that it makes us buy more expensive US made goods so that better jobs are available in the US (I guess sewing jeans and gluing shoe soles are better jobs) then why not simply drive better wages for jobs we are already doing? I am not sure I understand the conservative position on business and workers. Can someone legitimately explain the objective of conservative policy without flame wars? Republicans Like to Cut Taxes. With Tariffs, Trump Is Raising Them. President Trump’s tariffs are scrambling the Republican plan for the economy, long centered on tax cuts and growth.
I believe that I can interpret the messaging from Donald Trump, without flame wars. 1) He wants to bring more jobs back to America, particularly in manufacturing. These jobs will ostensibly pay well (much higher than they paid to foreign workers). 2) He wants to raise large amounts of $$ through inflationary tariffs. 3) He wants to lower inflation. 4) He wants to deport all illegal immigrants, including the appx 9-10 million who are gainfully employed. Does He plan to import literally millions of workers to do these jobs, including what had been done by undocumented folks? Does He have a plan for the inflationary effects of His stupid ideas? It's just contradictory nonsense that the average ignorant MAGA mind can wrap itself around, if focusing solely on a single piece at a time; "Those illegals have got to go!" "We need jobs in America!! "We'll get billions and billions from China!" "We'll bring back manufacturing and coal mining!!" Childish really. But everything about Trump has been childish for well over the 8+ years He's been active in politics. We've known Him, His lies, and His criminality for decades. The only surprise is that grown Americans could fall for this charlatan.
ooopps wonder how much that cost..nice warehouse contract for someone How Apple flew 600 tonnes of iPhones from India to US to avoid tariffs Tech giant Apple chartered cargo flights to ferry 600 tonnes of iPhones to the United States from India days before Donald Trump unveiled his tariff program that threatened to ignite a global trade war. The details of the push provide an insight into the smartphone company's private strategy to navigate around the Trump tariffs and build up inventory of its popular iPhones in America, one of its biggest markets. Analysts warned that US prices of iPhones could surge, given Apple's high reliance on imports from China , the main manufacturing hub of the devices, which is subject to Trump's highest tariff rate of 125%. That figure is far in excess of the tariff of 26% on imports from India, but which is now on hold after Trump called a 90-day pause this week that excludes China. Apple 'wanted to beat the tariff' and organised chartered cargo flights to ship 1.5 million iPhones into America before the tariffs came into effect, one source familiar with the planning told Reuters.
@ the 9:16 mark he calls India an economic powerhouse. Their per captia GDP is a third of that of Botswana. 82% of Indians live on less than $6.85 a day (2017). Why do you seek out & consume such tripe? this is TDS!
Weird, really, how there are people willing to even debate the "wisdom" of Trump's economic "plans." All anyone really needs to say is; "The guy is an idiot who doesn't know anything." Or, to quote his former Secretary of State; "He's a *****ng moron." But then, why would anyone expect anything different? His every business has failed, except the ones He was able to commit sufficient fraud in to keep afloat. He's been successful only as a reality TV host and a money launderer. To think this charlatan has a clue about economics is absurd. Much less that He is capable of reorganizing the global economy.
Government picking winners and losers used to be a complaint of the right. What they meant was "we want to pick the winners and losers".
it looks like total tariffs are probably higher after the change. Probably part of the reason for the stock market reversal.
China: America's tariffs are a joke Stock Market Today: Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq Futures Rise; China Raises U.S. Tariffs to 125% “Even if the U.S. continues to impose higher tariffs, it would be economically meaningless and would become a joke in the history of the world economy," Beijing said.
These are the industries that will get hurt on Chinese import/exports. Why? Not sure. Trump hasnt presented his case on what he's trying to accomplish. What Does China Import From the U.S.? The U.S. and China Are Still in a Trade War. Here’s How Much Business They Do. - WSJ China was America’s third-largest export market last year. The hefty tariffs Beijing has placed on U.S. exports—which were raised again Friday to 125%—will hit a raft of goods led by electronics, agricultural products, oil and vehicles. The U.S. sent about $143.5 billion in goods to China in 2024, according to Census Bureau data. Topping the list: $15.3 billion in electronics, including integrated circuits, and $14.7 billion in oil, gas and coal. China also is the dominant market for U.S. soybeans, with exports valued at $12.8 billion.
