Sometimes it helps to put the propagandists in their place. There are some simple-minded republicans that are easily influenced by them, and this war needs the support of the simpletons as well as the wise.

I didn't say the military acted independently. What Ukraine's motives were is irrelevant to the fact that they started the artillery shelling of the Russian-speakers on February 16, 2022 as reported by the OSCE. Each day Ukraine fired a greater number of artillery 4ounds. Feb 21 ~1200+, Feb 22 ~1800, Feb 23 ~2000+ (from memory).

This is like saying Ukraine committed suicide by shooting itself in the head five times and their motives for suicide were irrelevant even though they were getting ready to testify against a mob boss in a murder case.

I think you're complicating things to distract yourself from the reality that 8 days before Russia invaded Ukraine were firing artillery at Russian-speakers in violation of the Minsk agreements. I'm not a mind reader so there's no way for me to know what their prime motive/motoves were.

So the Russians destroyed residential buildings, tortured and murdered peope, raped and kidnapped women and children, and stole their possessions to teach the Ukrainian army a lesson?

Cyber attack cripples Russian air base, exposes missile threat

The images reveal hits on the technical area (marked in red) used for servicing and preparing missiles before launch. One facility was completely destroyed, while the other was damaged by shrapnel.

In contrast, the fueling infrastructure, which disappeared after the attack, is marked in yellow. It is important to note that Raduga Kh-22 missiles use liquid rocket fuel, which is highly corrosive, so they cannot be stored in a fueled state and are only fueled just before launch. Furthermore, in the second image, a hit on the storage area for Raduga Kh-22 missiles is marked in red, and the destroyed facility is marked in yellow.

The result of the attack was the immobilization of the airfield's infrastructure and the destruction of several missiles, potentially thwarting Russia's plans to carry out another act of terror against civilians.

Sad that civilians are being targeted for no other reason than to kill Ukrainians.

Civilians get killed in all wars. Russia had killed a low number of civilians relative to Ukrainian soldiers killed per Scott Ritter in 2022.

Ukraine soldiers were much more likely to behave badly compared to Russian soldiers. Remember the Bucha massacre?

Ukrainian soldiers cut off the body parts of Russian soldiers, didn't they?

Don’t care what soldiers do to other soldiers just civilians.

What country were the Russian soldiers in when they were abused?

Bottom line Russia is in Ukraine. They get everything they deserve. Now the Ukrainian soldiers in Russia are also open game. Curious how many Russian women they’ve raped, kids abducted, goods stolen, homes they’ve destroyed while occupied by civilians?

Russia is not in Ukraine. Rather, it’s clearing illegal occupiers from its newly acquired oblasts. Wait, you’re not one of those MAGA-type election deniers, are you ?

Russia's approach to war is to terrorize civilians in order to try and bully the population into submission. They rarely bomb military targets, mostly apartments, hospitals, schools, etc. So far that hasn't worked so well for them as Ukrainians have shown amazing grit and resolve. Even if Russia "wins" the war, I suspect they will have created a enemy that will never forget and will be looking for revenge. Good thing they don't look anything like Russians or speak the language. Oh wait ....

Meanwhile, Ukraine has been focusing on military important targets. They have inflicted a lot of damage and have caused Russia to have to get military assistance from the likes of Iran and North Korea.

It is a war of attrition at this point, and unfortunately I think Russia has more bodies to throw into the grinder long term than Ukraine does. My expectation is that eventually Ukraine will give up territory for peace.

The sucky part I didn't expect is that Trump is now trying to exploit them and take their resources in the pretense of providing them support until peace can be brokered.

Let's say you foolishly invested your entire life savings into one company's stock and said company's stock price has fallen incrementally every single trading day for the past two years. Analysts give the stock no chance of recovering. Do you sell the stock ASAP to salvage something for your family or do you hang on to it while bemoaning all of the other companies who clearly took advantage of the company you invested your entire life savings in?

moving that air power forward more and more and not hearing of losses or even A2A engagements

Air Force strikes Russian military warehouses in the Kursk region

Ukrainian forces struck enemy military depots located in Russia's Kursk region. They destroyed equipment and killed several dozen soldiers of the occupying army, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"On April 7, 2025, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck a complex of hangars actively used by russian armed forces in Ozerki, Kursk region," according to a statement from the General Staff.

As a result of the strike, hangars, several military buildings, and technical equipment were destroyed. The Ukrainian forces eliminated over 30 soldiers, including drone crews and repair personnel.

"The destruction of this site significantly reduces the ability of the Russian Federation to conduct operations against Ukraine's Defense Forces in the Sumy region and Kursk area," the military noted.

this is kind of big....Ukraine has captured chinese soldiers fighting for Russia

Chinese soldiers fight against Ukraine - US State Department reacts | RBC-Ukraine

The United States is aware that Ukraine has captured two Chinese soldiers. China is one of Russia's key enablers, said US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce.

"It's disturbing with North Korea participating, it's disturbing with the Chinese soldiers, having been captured. We are aware of those reports that Ukraine captured two Chinese citizens fighting on behalf of Russia in Ukraine. China is a major enabler of Russia in the war in Ukraine," she said.
    ...............................
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that during combat in the Donetsk region, Ukrainian soldiers captured two Chinese nationals. There are documents confirming this fact. The President also shared a video featuring the new prisoners.

Zelenskyy clarified that the Ukrainian Armed Forces engaged in a fight with a group of six Chinese soldiers, but only two were taken prisoner. Chinese officials have yet to respond to these reports. Meanwhile, Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Chinese chargé d'affaires to explain how Chinese nationals got involved in the war against Ukraine.
