Golden might be the youngest coach to win a national title since 1983 (before Golden was even born).... However, he is not the youngest coach to lead the Gators to the Final Four. That would be Billy Donovan, who was 34 - 5 years younger - when he took Florida to the Championship Game in 2000. Donovan was only 1 year older than Golden when his Florida team won its first national title in 2006. Youngest Florida Coach to Make the Final Four Donovan: 34 Golden: 39 Kruger: 41 Youngest Florida Coach to Win a Title Golden: 39 Donovan: 40
Gators were barely a 2nd tier program when Donovan came in, and he lifted us to Elite status. White had us trending down, and we were barely an Elite program. Golden got us trending up, and now we are among the giants-Blue Blood- along with Duke, Connecticut, Kansas, North Carolina, UCLA, Indiana, Kentucky. If Golden has us competing for NCAA titles for the next decade, they will need to build a larger gym that seats 18,000+
I can't wait to see Todd's future roster constructs. He already has a ton returning if UF is able to keep them. Just needs a couple of pieces I think. Don't sleep on Isaiah Brown, He's gonna be a baller and legit offensive threat I think.
How long should it take for us to see action to hang onto CTG and discourage him from entertaining offers from outside? Florida basketball coach ranks near bottom of conference in coaching salary
I hope it's soon and I hope we pay him within the top 5 coaches salary in college basketball. I do have some concerns that top programs from other colleges will seek to go after him and or NBA teams. This guy knows coaching and what he has done in 3 short years is amazing. Now add to this the accusations leveled at him a few months ago, how much of this has left a bad taste that it becomes a tipping point? Yes, we know it was favorably settled but still.
I am quite sure the UF AD is acutely aware of the situation. But he is grateful for your reminders and thanks you in advance.
Other top programs will definitely come after him. We will rework his contract this off season and he will see a sizable increase. I would be surprised if another college program will be able to lure him away. We will be able to react and meet anything they offer. The real threat will be the nba. If he wants to coach there, there isn’t a whole lot we can do. We can give him just as much money, but we still won’t be an nba team. Just hoping he doesn’t have/doesn’t get that itch.
I’m not too worried about Todd jumping to the NBA anytime soon. He’s young, energetic, loves his players and the university—and most importantly, he has a firm grip on the new NIL era and the modern recruiting game.
Rewind almost 20 years ago when Donovan turned down a big pay raise/extension after his first NC. He couldn't justify cashing in when his players couldn't. Heck, how many college players are making more than Golden now?
I definitely see the NBA as a future destination. Not at all worried about other schools. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see his salary doubled, that would make him top 5.
He just got a raise and extension last year, you want to give him another?? I'd say bump him to $4.5M, placing him at 5th in the conferance, with annual bumps scheduled and strong incetnive clasuses. I saw on another site, that his buyout is around $14.7M (need to increase it to $20M). Mike White's buyout is $4M-ish.
