Oddly, I’m somewhat wanting to defend resume here, so I’d go with those two teams being Auburn and Florida, but Duke has a hell of a squad. I’d probably seed the #1s like this right now. Auburn Florida Duke Houston But there really isn’t a ton separating any of these four at this point.
Duke is #7 in WAB for ≥ Q1 games, #6 in ≥ Q2 games, #5 in ≥ Q3 games, #5 in ≥ Q4 games i.e. progressively worse the better the teams included. Just does that make the cut for a #1 seed?
Clearly the committee was favoring metrics over resume. Can’t complain too much about the program’s third ever #1 seed, but I would have seeded Florida above Duke. But I still want resume to matter, and five top 10 NET wins is pretty dang good. Edit: I should note that the committee also showed some reverence for resume by having Auburn over Duke.
It's what everyone was saying the last week. It's not that the tournaments don't matter. It's just that they don't move the needle as much many somehow think. Recency bias and all.
If I was going to a Regional I would much rather go to Frisco. Great food and if you are into it the best dim sum in North America. As for Indy I tried looking up Houlihan's as the Gator bar but I think they are no more. Sad. I had lots of good times there in 2006.
Agreed. I prefer a more valid assessment; one that considers factors such as head-to-head, quality wins, common opponents, etc. All of those data points suggest that FL should be seeded higher than Auburn.
No, but we beat the team that beat Houston . . . in their own crib. We also beat the team that beat the team that beat Houston . . . twice, once in their own crib. When it comes to quality wins, no team compares to FL imo.
I no longer do brackets for money and being in Gainesville I know that the Gators would be WAY over bet. I actually like the Gators to win it all but knowing the folks that I would bet against I would take Duke as the champion. I would not want that outcome but it would be the smart bet.
Being in STL, Indy is an easy drive. But San Francisco is a great destination. Never been into dim sum (especially with a 13yo boy as my wing man, haha), but plenty of other good food there.
I wish where my wife and I went for Sunday dim sum in San Fran but it was recommended by some girls at a store the night before. We were the only round eyes in a two story place and it was to die for.
Some fun dialogue to rehash . . . This post is even in greater perspective with the tourney run the Gators just imposed upon the field. We did now.
