Auburn was a preseason darling, but WE were the best team. We proved it all season Beat Auburn TWICE. Beat Tennessee TWICE Beat Alabama TWICE I said it in the rankings thread. It was us.
Well played Tilly ! Did not drink a sip during the game but I’m on my 3 rd Elysian Space Dust . Yes I feel really really good right now now .
I was NOT happy when Auburn got the #1 seed in the south. For one, it was not fair. For another, I was IN Atlanta that weekend (by coincidence). They had lost 3-of-4 to end the season, and we had beaten them by 9 in Auburn.
It's not a "metrics" thing. The committee evaluates the resume as a whole, without respect to when you win the games. We got downgraded for our weak non-conference schedule. They got upgraded for their tough non-conference schedule, which they were successful against. But we have been the better team for two months, and it really hasn't been close. It's been us, Duke, and Houston, and the metrics have reflected that.
They were given the nod for their quad 1 performance. That's literally the metrics. The eye test needs to be a component. Even if just a small one. No honest eyeball thought Auburn was better than us.
I'll spare the quote feature, which provides some interesting results for "metrics" and say that the committee was FOS. They failed to acknowledge the best wins in college basketball and the Gators gave evidence to that today.
Wasn’t just us. They were considered better than Duke and Houston, too. And the Q1-2 win record is just one part of the resume metric equation, alongside the predictive metrics. What they don’t do is take into account head-to-head wins or when wins occurred. They reward teams for the resume over the whole season. But they aren’t saying a higher seeded team is necessarily better or more likely to win. Our resume metrics were categorically worse than theirs, and our predictive metrics were roughly equivalent. It would be essentially impossible to seed teams based upon the eye test or comparing who had the better wins. Too darn many teams, too insanely subjective. In any event, we did what we needed to do on the court and deserve to be in this game.
