Recap of UF regional performance from floridagators.com

No. 3 Florida Gymnastics Win NCAA Regional Second Round Session - Florida Gators

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – No. 3 seed Florida gymnastics is headed to Sunday's NCAA Regional final round after winning its second-round session Friday in NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional Second Round action. The Gators are back in the University of Alabama's Coleman Coliseum Sunday for regional final action.

The Gators tallied the day's top total across both of the Tuscaloosa Regional Second Round sessions. Florida's 198.225 is the team second-highest total of the season.

Florida now joins No. 6 seed California (197.550), No. 11 Alabama (197.275) and No. 14 Oregon State (197.050) for Sunday's NCAA Regional Final at 6 p.m. ET. The top two teams in Sunday's competition advance to the NCAA Championships, set for April 17 and 19 in Ft. Worth, Texas.

No. 3 Florida in NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional Second Round – Session II
    Team Totals

    April 4, 2025 – Coleman Coliseum

    Team
    Vault Bars Beam Floor Total
    Florida^ 49.500 49.575 49.575 49.575 198.225
    Oregon State^ 48.975 49.175 49.375 49.525 197.050

UF could have the consistency of 49.575 in each event for a total of 198.300 and win a national championship. An average of 49.600 for a total of 198.400 would just about guarantee a national championship as nationals works with 6 judges instead of 4 at regionals, usually a bit lower scores.

Since preseason, I have viewed LSU as a bigger threat than Oklahoma so it's the tiggers the Gators have to score high enough to dethrone, have to be observably better.

The Gators were very consistent Friday night and yet there's still room to be better. That's encouraging. Considering all the turmoil this team has been through this year, I like where they're at right now. High quality team with a high quality coach.

UF is one 9.9 consistent scorer on each event away from being a shoo-in for the national championship. Anya Pilgrim could be that gymnast, but she has dropped off some. I'm still hopeful she will be ready to be top drawer by nationals. She has done it before so she can do it again.

Alyssa Arana and Gabby Disidore are progressing very well. Alyssa was working on a very good beam routine before she let one mistake turn into two forcing UF to count Skylar Draser's 9.85. That's an experience she can grow on.

This is where missing Sloane Blakely hurts a bit. However, like you, I like a dedicated and focused UF team with a high-quality coach to have a very good chance of advancing through regionals and to compete for and win the national championship.

Saturday Regional Final Results from College Gym News:

    Saturday, April 5
    No. 1 LSU (198.050), No. 8 Michigan State (198.000), No. 9 Kentucky (197.625), and No. 16 Arkansas (197.375)
    • VT: Kellerman (MSU), Smith (MSU), 9.950
    • UB: Smith (MSU), 9.975
    • BB: Chio (LSU), Finnegan (LSU), Lee (UK), Roberson (Ark), 9.950
    • FX: Finnegan (LSU), 9.975
    • AA: Smith (MSU), 39.650
    • LSU and Michigan State advance to the national semifinals.
    • Records: Kentucky – tied 3rd highest team beam score (49.525) and Michigan State – new 4th highest team all-around score (198.0), new team vault record (49.65), tied 2nd highest team bars score (49.575)
    No. 4 Utah (197.825), No. 5 UCLA (197.625), No. 17 Denver (197.350), and No. 12 Minnesota (196.850)
    • VT: Johnson (UU), Webster-Longin (UCLA), 9.950
    • UB: McCallum (UU), 10.000
    • BB: Mabanta (DU), McCallum (UU), 9.950
    • FX: McCallum (UU), 9.975
    • AA: McCallum (UU), 39.725
    • Utah and UCLA advance to the national semifinals.
    • Records: Denver – tied 5th highest team beam score (49.55); LSU – tied 3rd highest team beam score (49.675); and Utah – tied individual bars record (10.0 – Grace McCallum)
Advancing to nationals are 1 LSU, 8 Michigan State, 4 Utah, and 5 UCLA. All 4 are national worthy teams.

LSU did not improve on its 198.100 regional semifinal score with its 198.050.

Michigan State joined the 198 post-season club of 4 scoring 198.000. The Spartans have both depth and talent, reminds me of Missouri.

Kentucky and Arkansas represented the SEC well. Neither team should have been hanging their heads after the regional.

Utah asserted itself against UCLA, but keep in mind that the regional was in Salt Lake City. It was basically a home meet for a Utes team that also hosted the Big 12 tourney. That's a cushy ride to nationals.

The Denver HC made lemonade out of lemons. Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart would get my vote for the national coach of the year:

Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart - Joy S. Burns Head Women's Gymnastics Coach - Staff Directory - University of Denver Athletics

Minnesota was, well Minnesota, finished about as one would expect.
