Uh, we're talking about deep-fried foods. Are we really trying to parse out the healthier options? They're French fries. Tallow or Vegetable oil, it's probably one of the worst things you can eat.
Well they are trying to sell this as a health move… even using MAHA (make America healthy again) in their social media… deep fried food is bad but beef tallow looks like one of the worst options available….
I still remember their incessant commercials during every Sunday morning broadcast of "Breakfast with the Gators".
The first time we got a Steak and Shake locally (Pensacola), it was still under construction, just a big sign. My wife asked her friend if she was planning to try it out, and she said "I'd be too embarassed. I have never been dancing at all."
I also dont think you can rule out Boomer nostalgia too ... my dad always used to tell me about how the McDonalds fries were better a long time ago. But he never claimed it was healthy, in fact, the opposite, because he had worked there as a kid.
I'm sure they were. How can it not be? I've had fries cooked in duck fat before and they were amazing.
Mickey Dee's did use beef tallow for their fries. Another reason their fries were so good they actually used fresh potatoes. A friend of mine worked at McDonald's when he was in high school back in the '60s. One of his most disliked jobs was peeling the potatoes.
My friends and I used Hawaiian Tropic because we believed it would intensify the burn. And it smelled like you came from the beach.
I grew up in South Florida and spent hours on the beach without suntan lotion. I have been paying the price over the last 20 years with multiple basal cell carcinomas, one squamous cell carcinoma and a melanoma fortunately non-invasive and caught very early.
will always be steak and shoot for me. lived within stumbling distance without crossing a major road and frequented it often until that happened. bad couple of years, about same time that the shuttle exploded. cold as chit that am going to 7:20 chem
One opened up near me last year, been pretty busy. Haven't been, wife doesn't like, but the place always reminds me of my FIL, he loved the place.
The last time I had Steak N Shake was about a decade ago. I was on my way home from an event, stomach growling and looking for a place that was open late. I walked in past midnight to the place empty. Placed an order to go, thinking it would be a relatively short wait since there were no customers. It took a good 30-40 minutes. Burger was soggy, fries were bleh, milkshake was good. Haven't been to one since.
S&S is a shell of it's former self, used to be a decent place to get a burger and milkshake and their breakfast was even pretty good. Have one close to the office, they might as well close their dining room...nobody in it at lunch time. Order on their app, walk in and pick it up.
