Why plans are already in motion for a Trump third term – no matter what the law says

When Donald Trump’s former chief strategist Steve Bannon said “I’m a firm believer that President Trump will run and win again in 2028,” last week, it should have been a surprise, but wasn’t. “We’re working on it. … We’ll see what the definition of term limit is”, the dishevelled Bannon told NewsNation. It wasn’t the first time he had mentioned it either. The president’s adviser, who went to prison for refusing to testify before a congressional committee about the 6 January insurrection, suggested it in December. Then, he argued that Trump could circumvent the 22nd amendment, which codifies the two-term limit, because the word “consecutive” is not in the text of the document.

Trump has been making his feelings clear too. Shortly after his election victory last November, the president told congressional Republicans: “I suspect I won’t be running again unless you say ‘He’s so good we’ve got to figure something else out’.”

Why plans are already in motion for a Trump third term – no matter what the law says

I think you would have to be naive to think that he is going to try everything that he can to say in office. I also fully expect MAGA who currently says that against it to fully twist themselves and knots for years from now with explaining why they are supportive over it

Don't worry about it. He'll be gonzo by then. Either mentally or physically.

Which would be worse for America? For $Trump's handlers to try and pull a fast one ..... or, James David / Donald Bowman-Hamel-Vance to assume the Presidency. Either one puts the U.S. between the devil and the deep blue sea.

And the notion that Trump could run for a third term is an example of the real TDS and yes it is a pwoerful thing. No rational person believed that a losing presidential candidate could block the certification of the election of his opponent yet a little over four years ago a group of his supporters suffering from the real TDS and urged on by him invaded the Capitol attacking law enforcement officers in the process in an attempt to do so. There is not reason why he and the same idiots will not try to run him for a third term despite the explicit language of the 22nd Amendment clearly limiting a president to two terms.

Ah well, at the inception of our nation some of our Founding Fathers considered importing a monarch. And the so-called Greatest Generation was seemingly prepared to annoint FDR President-for-Life.

I think that this is how they operate now. Bannon or some other idiot floats something outrageous. Propaganda network Fox picks it up and discusses it. They then gauge how willing their base is to go along with it. In this case, they will gauge whether or not they support abandoning the Constitution. If enough morons support it, you better believe that they will try to pull it off.

    ^ Agree.

But we already DO know that Trump supporters are OK with abandoning the Constitution. They watched him criminally try to overturn an election, but still voted for him.

Speaking as a professional bettor I think the Democrats stole the 2020 election. That's why Democrats set it up in a way that allowed it to be rigged. Keep lying about it and maybe you can brainwash yourselves into believing Biden won.

Seeing as how FDR's ex-presidency and ex-personhood ran concurrently, they did exactly that.

President Donald Trump said Sunday that “I’m not joking” about trying to serve a third term, the clearest indication he is considering ways to breach a constitutional barrier against continuing to lead the country after his second term ends in early 2029.

“There are methods which you could do it,” Trump said in a telephone interview with NBC News.

NBC’s Kristen Welker asked Trump if one potential avenue to a third term was having Vice President JD Vance run for the top job and “then pass the baton to you.”

“Well, that’s one,” Trump responded. “But there are others too. There are others.”

So, @Gator515151 may be right. Trump is a lefty idiot & he believes it.

He's already underwater in approval rating. If economy continues on its current trend, it will be a pointless exercise.

Somewhat amazing the way the right-wing media is trying to spin his approval ratings. Even though he is underwater in virtually every poll because his numbers are among the highest he has had a poll showing up him with a 47% approval and a 51% disapproval rating is being spun as good news and the one poll that had his approval rating at 49% with disapproval at 51% has been touted as if his approval rating was over 60%.

Yeah. Yeah. I remember the scare tactics about Obama’s third term, too. Two terms is two terms. There are no exceptions.
