So... not like Wilbekin at all.

 

While this victory over UConn is epic and very satisfying and heartbreaking for UConn, the Sweet Sixteen game in Miami in 1994 was even more so on all accounts. Dickie V called that Regional the UConn Invitational. I had four tickets and my wife and I were going but couldn't find other folks from Gainesville that I knew to use the other two tickets. We ended up selling them to some Gator fans that a friend knew that lived down there. Everybody thought we had no chance. LOL. I watched that team and knew we had better than a puncher's chance.

That game propelled us to our first Final Four.

And made the Gators a team to be reckoned with on the national scene.

Maybe this one will propel us even further.

BTW enjoyed a perfectly made dry gin martini on South Beach after that game.

That was my fear, that they hit a bunch of 3s and we are off our game. They took us off our game, but didn't hit enough 3s to pull the upset.

 

I don't read the game thread usually. I might see something and chime in on rare occasion.

I was worried because we were out of sync for most of the game and I give UConn credit but we were never out of the game.

But I have seen these guys ramp it up before and had hope.

The Gators rose to the occasion.

 

Yup. My brother and I were watching and saying we weren't rebounding poorly, just that it was flukey that so many bounced long and right back to UConn.

 

Good times - feels like that may have been the last time UF beat UConn? I read that we were 0-5 in the last five. I remember sitting in a pub in Denton, TX watching that game with friends, one who was a trumpet player from the northeast and who was a UConn fan. Donyell Marshall missed one or two FTs to keep the door open for the Gator boys.

 

Yeah, that was torture at the line.

Tie game and AD fouled Donyell Marshall on the elbow for a two shot foul with very little time left. Ted Hilliary on the call. My wife turned to me and said "He is going to miss both."

We then CRUSHED UConn in OT.

First game, they played with their food and got away with it. UConn scared them back to reality. Hopefully they learned to clean their plate before getting a dessert.
