It’s a nice sound bite. I would be interested to know exactly how we will ensure students are learning what they need to be successful.
Many Red states will take a hit without Fed funding for education. Are Red States More Dependent On Federal Education Funding?
"the contempt [Republicans] have for disabled children is rooted in a mistaken belief that there aren't too may of them," "When I hear Republicans out there talking about their plan for education in America, I don't hear them talking about making sure disabled kids have access to a public education." "—Because we're against it," Gutfeld said matter-of-factly. 'We’re against it': Fox host says the quiet part out loud in segment about disabled kids
standardized tests- in the 60’s we took them and to graduate you had to take the Florida 12th grade test
Great post and article. Informative on many levels. I am saddened to have to disagree with one aspect of the article : Historian Kevin Kruse responded to the clip, opining that "the contempt [Republicans] have for disabled children is rooted in a mistaken belief that there aren't too may of them," and added that anywhere from one in eight to one in five students suffer from some form of learning disability. ...Kruse wrote that parents of special education students are "acutely aware of their children's rights and the gov't role securing them" and are "fiercely protective" of their kids. And he added that parents can be "deceptively polite when they're dealing with local officials." "But if *national* leaders mess with their kids? The gloves will come off and they will destroy them," the historian wrote. __________________________________________________ I think we know better by now. Every aspect of America will just roll over to the Trump. By the time any specific group is impacted enough to care enough to resist in any way ...... it will be too late. We doomed ourselves when we (collectively) decided that it was OK to let a presidential criminal not face justice. We cemented our fate when we (collectively) decided that it was inappropriate to voice our profound and thorough disgust and intolerance for people who tolerate criminality and rape. And so here we are. (Our only hope is to slow the damage with a divided Congress. But that won't really be much.)
Kids today are inundated with standardized tests. If anyway, analysts are starting to wonder if the tests are a part of the problem.
Not the federal govt. The govt doesn’t administer the tests. I think the “No Child Left Behind” Act and later laws set some requirements to DO testing for K-12 - and the federal govt collects data back and issues “report cards” on schools - but not sure any of the tests are actually administered by federal govt. The SAT for example is run by a 3rd party non-profit. Don’t think it has anything whatsoever to do with federal govt?
I think @chemgator point is that states come up with standardized tests + private organizations. So ModBilly’s anecdote about state tests… is that it hasn’t changed at all. States, in many circumstances, still create and administer the standard tests.
Well, after looking at Dear Leader's life, a few of the commandments will have to be removed, and a few modified. We might be able to have the Five Commandments of Trump when its all said and done.
If each state creates its own standardized test, how do we know if one state is doing a better job of educating children than another? In the race to have the best-rated education system, each state would want to make their test a little easier than the other states. Apparently, the feds have to evaluate the tests and make sure that no state is cheating the system by dumbing down their tests. So by that metric, the federal gov't is providing an administrative role for the tests. They are not administering the tests as far as handing them out to children and collecting them, but they are making sure they meet some federal standard.
The counter argument: A for profit rating agency could evaluate all state tests, employer ratings for readiness, and comparable test scores by state on national standardized tests like the PSAT/SAT/AP exams. The Fed could stay out of it all together. The only reason the Fed should be involved is if there is a state breaking national laws on discrimination bias in the tests.
