France’s minister of higher education and research Philippe Baptiste said that the researcher was traveling to a conference near Houston earlier this month when US authorities found that his phone “contained exchanges with colleagues and friends in which he expressed a personal opinion on the Trump administration’s research policies.”

The researcher was then denied entry to the US and expelled from the country, Baptiste said.

The French ministry of higher education and research said that he worked in the field of space research, and that the incident took place on March 9.'

Any foreigner that insults Trump or upsets MAGA is subject to arrest and deportation if the SOS decides he wants to.

That's what some here feel is the law now.

No due process, no freedom of speech or expression for foreigners. Sec of State has sole discretion to arrest and deport any foreigner he deems dangerous. Who knew?

Actually that is the law now. If you don't like it, I suggest you write your congressman to change the law.

that is an untested interpretation of the law. it remains to be seen if the SOS does have unfettered discretion or if he has to provide just cause like the constitution says. Laws are written that are unconstitutional, Florida has been on a hell of a run in that regard. i trust the judge a hell of a lot more than my congressman. byron daniels would kill a baby if dt told him to

    Untested interpretation?

Here is what @GatorBen said on that:

the Board of Immigration Appeals under Clinton considered it, and concluded that review of the Secretary of State’s determination is largely ministerial and consists only of verifying that the Secretary of State has set forth a facially reasonable and bona fide basis for his determination, but does not reach determining whether the Secretary’s decision is actually reasonable because doing so would entangle others in foreign policy considerations that have been firmly committed to the Secretary of State, and that it seems clear that the law did not contemplate others second guessing the Secretary of State’s decision. .

It’s utterly pathetic that we’d have to change the law due to having a pussy prez. You’d think a prez would want to uphold our values. Another slap in the face to patriots

What part of the law do you want to change?

    • the part where someone who presents a potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences for the United States is deportable?
    • the part where someone who has voted in violation of any Federal, State, or local constitutional provision, statute, ordinance, or regulation is deportable?
    • the part where someone who has been battered or subjected to extreme cruelty and who is not and was not the primary perpetrator of violence in the relationship?

Please explain to me the "serious adverse foreign policy consequences" of a French space researcher that doesn't like Trump being allowed in the country to attend a professional conference. Or the way in which it violates some Constitutional Provision, statute, ordinance, or regulation. Or the part where saying mean things about Trump is the same as domestic violence.

Oh, so your entire point is off topic (although it is interesting how much you all have learned to love unchecked power with no checks-and-balances). Now, would you like to justify why we shouldn't allow people to enter the country if they don't like the President?

He doesn't live here. He was denied entry and expelled because he apparently texted somebody that he was opposed to Trump's policies. Is that a reason that we should be denying entry to somebody?

Would you invite someone into your home for dinner who supported Musk and Trump? Obviously a hypothetical situation. Visas are are a privilege, not a right.

Since when is entrance to a country the same as invitation to a house? And yes, to answer your very dumb question. Had two over last month. Because, I don't screen my visitors by politics.

Regardless, you are justifying tools only used in authoritarian countries. Normal, non-authoritarian countries don't care if you like their President or his/her policies. I've been to countries that I thought the President was an idiot. I've been to countries where I liked the President. Guess what? Nobody cared in those countries because they were not authoritarian countries, where you are expected to genuflect to the dear leader. It seems like you might prefer those sorts of authoritarian countries, huh?
