Florida cars would need front and rear tags under proposed law More dumb coming from Tallahassee. When the govt tries to fix something, we always lose. Looks like the bill has broad support.
So everybody needs to get a front license tag ($$) so they can catch hit and run drivers?? Good luck with that. Another dumb idea out of Tally. Im guessing if we look deeper somebody will be making money off this.
The reason there are so many hit and runs is because the cost of auto insurance in Florida is so jacked up that people can't afford it. But they don't want to solve that problem
Florida has always had an issue with uninsured motorists. Uninsured motorist coverage has been offered for decades here. Certainly the increased cost of car insurance may have made it worse and that in part is due to higher costs to repair cars, more lawsuits and higher payouts. I read something a few years back that Florida had the highest rate of lawsuits from accidents. Also with a higher percentage of older more impaired drivers rates are higher. More to the OP many states have dual plates, 29 in fact. While I’m apathetic to it Florida is in the minority that have single plates.
UM doesnt cover property damage in FL. Doesnt really help if someone damages your car and splits. You are either going to eat your deductible or pay out of pocket if you dont have collision coverage.
my car didnt but but because I live in maryland and require a front tag, I had to just drill holes in the bumper...there were 2 dimples already there for doing that.
This is interesting. We found an uncirculated 1966 plate for our classic car, but when it was made they only made one. I wonder if some cars won’t be required to have one? Anyway in my reading of the bill that part is just an amendment. The bill itself is to help with hit-and-run investigations by requiring auto repair shops to collect and submit police crash reports before repairing cars.
I’m in a state that requires front plates and I haven’t had one for years. Never been a problem for me, though if a cop wanted to could write a ticket.
OT I pay more insurance per year for my 2015 nissan 4 cylinder rogue with 81K miles than I do for my 2020 568K 3/3 2600 sq foot home with an alarm in a gated subdivision. SUV $2025.88 year Home $1358.09 year Hard to believe isn’t it? it’s why we only have one vehicle.
Not really surprised. Ours isn't that extreme but its close. Further, we pay more for my 2012 Infiniti (95K miles) than my wife's new Mercedes. Insurance says too costly to get parts for older cars, has less safety features, etc etc, but after your post I'm thinking they don't like Nissan .
The chances of a liability claim in an auto are much greater than with your home (you could probably double your liability coverage on your house for just $20-50 in additional premium a year). A house built 2020 has lots of credits too since new houses generally dont have things go wrong. IF your house was built in 1980 those numbers would be much different.
You’re right about our house. Anything 2019 or newer is considered new which equates to a better rate. We had 120 mph gusts last hurricane and zero damage other than I had to replant some crotons in the flower bed.
One can be added. Ancient history, I bought a used '73 Caprice from my later father-in-law who lived on Miami Beach back in 1978. Had to add the front plate bracket when I re-registered it in Virginia.
