One of the biggest concerns from Florida’s fanbase this offseason was whether Billy Napier would be hiring an offensive coordinator for the 2025 season. The Gators didn’t go outside of the program to hire an offensive coordinator, but instead promoted Russ Callaway, who previously served as the team’s co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach.

Sounds like he'll bring some diversity. Wondering if this will appease the triggered fans about CBN's play callin'?!?

We all hope some innovations take place and we score more points. 64th scoring offense says we can do better.

Health, especially at QB, is as important as innovation.

Is strength of schedule factored into the "64th" scoring offense?

No doubt it's crucial DJ stays healthy. But it's not an excuse. Do we care that georgia struggled at QB because they failed to recruit and develop their roster last season and hope they fail again? As of now we have one QB that can take us to the promised land and we are four years in. But I wholeheartedly agree that at this moment, if DJ were to not be healthy and ready this entire season, we would be in trouble. If DJ were to be out for a string of games and for that we end up a 7 win team instead of 9 or 10, I would not be on the "it's not the staff's fault our QB was injured" bandwagon.

It can if you want it to. Some say we had an incredibly tough schedule, some not as difficult as preseason. But that's last season and we are in year four. We are never going to have an easy schedule so do we agree as a fan base 7 win average is the ceiling? What should the expectation be? For me 8 wins total is a minimum. I would be happy because it means we have some real bright spots in the season. 10 would be incredible and real progress, but that's too unlikely to make my expectation. But what's it going to be? On one hand it's not fair to judge the first half of season because we had Mertz. But with that comes that Napier hand picked Mertz, indicated they wanted him specifically, so that's on him. Re second half, IMO, DJ was incredible for a true FR, and Defense has to help the offense, which they did not accomplish in our tougher games. I don't believe it's a requirement for Napier to score 40pts a game. But 64th even with a tough schedule is still low. You would agree that it has to improve, or that a HC on top his game who misses nothing would make sure we have a Defense that prevents other teams from scoring more points than his Offense is likely to generate, right? You can't have it both ways. Some scoring improvement would be nice and a Defense that frustrates other teams and forces FGs would be just as welcome. The main issue last season, which is an available metric to our analytics, is that we settled for FGs more often than the better scoring teams. Fix that and we jump to 30-40th scoring offense.

FTR, I realize it doesn't matter if history repeats itself and our Offense stays at 64th(28 pts) but our Defense somehow rises to top 20 and averages 19pts. It's just that at end of season, the combination decides our wins and losses.

That doesn't matter. Our offense doesn't play our opponent's offense. Never ceases to amaze me when pre game announcers and analysts talk to two QBs about the game, as if they play against one another. The only thing that matters for our Offense is how it performs against their Defense.

UF had to play Texas with their 3rd string QB and the last four games with an injured Fr. 2nd string QB. If a fan wants to ignore that dynamic and bellyache about the offense in that situation, so be it. Not my problem.

I just asked a simple yes or no question about the “64” ranking, it wasn’t an essay question- lol. I know that ranking. Texas St. and UTSA were 5th and 12th, respectively. I’m sure that wouldn’t have changed if they played UFs schedule.

I don’t understand what you’re trying to say about last year’s schedule?!? Is there some metric showing it anything other than one of the top three toughest schedules in the country?

A great qb turns fg's into td's, not a coach. Im hoping we see that this year.

Well, sometimes yes. But there is a reason great play callers exist and while QBs have to make plays, so do play callers. So if you are absolute that it's all on the QB, we disagree.

    Yes!

But they did not score 49pts on our Offense, and it's not unfair to point out there were some obvious problems with our Defense that could have been handled before the players asked our HC to wake up.

Like it or not, we and Billy Napier compete in the SEC. That's that. That is the standard and it is not going to change. 64th is okay with me if our Defense is better than 28 points, most games. It's not about winning every game because we will not.

Yes of course there is or are. You must be thinking pre season. We definitely did not have THE toughest schedule as it played out, but top ten. When do you expect our SEC schedule to be easier? Good thing fsu was such a mess and we had a relatively easy bowl.

What do you believe is a reasonable expectation for wins/losses this season?

Its just not possible without the qb that is capable of executing the plays. Great qbs are great with multiple playcallers throughout their career. Same goes for the lesser qbs, playcalling cant fix them

You're not going to be happy unless I concede Napier is infallible. We are 19-19 but room for optimism. I've not said we will not improve, or should not. I have made it clear that your OPINION of our HC is different than mine. That won't change until at least November.

OCs, systems, play designs, calling appropriate plays for down, distance, situations and defensive tendencies matter. You can't possibly believe otherwise. But yes, a QB that can make the passes matters. Who would think otherwise? A QB that can turn a busted play into something is great. Who would think otherwise?

Most systems tend to work with great players and most coaches seem like geniuses when they have them.
