Gators, just show up, don't look past Norfolk State, play hard, and we will advance. Overlooking teams has been our only real weakness this season.
So will ball movement (including our passing bigs in the high post) and shooting. I'd still like the opportunity to play against it.
Isn't the game that the game Wilbiken was playing on a severely sprained ankle that he got in the previous game?
Norfolk State may be one of the better 16 seeds in history. You don’t see many teams on that line with a 24-10 record that wins both their regular season and conference tournament. Usually you get a lot of teams with losing or close to .500 records that get hot and win their conference tournament in order to get in ala Jackson State in 2007. Florida should still easily cruise but don’t be surprised if we don’t cover the 28.5 spread. That’s a lot to ask against any team.
I would agree on not covering, because if we are up 25 with 3 mins to go, we are clearing the bench and letting walk ons get some PT.
Yeah, I think I'm taking the points on these 1/16 matchups. Some are 30+. I'm with you, benches will be cleared.
Norfolk State is clearly the best of the 16 seeds. And we were seeded as the weakest of the 1 seeds. Makes sense from a seeding perspective. But they get the closer game. Ouch.
Make no mistake, we are going to win easily, lol, but Norfolk is a decent squad. This Florida team isn’t those Virginia or Purdue teams that played slow and once they got down had trouble catching up due to their pace so I know they will lock in and be ready to go. Just don’t be surprised if it’s a little close early and then we blitz them. Same thing happened in 2007 against Jackson State and we ended up winning by 43.
In football, I believe you can play in a bowl game (even if you have played in 4 games during the season) and not loose a RS. Is the NC2A tournament similar? If so, could we see Oli this week?
Problem is our bench would easily outscore their bench more than the starting 5s. It can easily get out of hand before walkons come on. If we score more than 100, which we are easily capable, we’ll cover.
I don't think we cover that spread. We'll be playing subs and talking out for off the gas if we get a 20+ point lead on these guys late in the second half. Unless they are just absolute trash, which I doubt.
I don’t think it’s a crazy idea, but given that the spread opened at Gators by 25 and quickly jumped to Gators by 28 would make me nervous. Obviously a different matchup, but the 07 Gators beat Jax St 112-69 in the 1 v 16 matchup.
