    says the judiciary must be independent and their rulings must be followed. Not sure who this is directed at, but it feels like he is talking to MAGA and the head magat himself.

    Chief Justice John Roberts sounds alarm over potential defiance of court rulings

    "Every Administration suffers defeats in the court system -- sometimes in cases with major ramifications for executive or legislative power or other consequential topics," Roberts said. "Nevertheless, for the past several decades, the decisions of the courts, popular or not, have been followed, and the Nation has avoided the standoffs that plagued the 1950s and 1960s."

    Roberts' decision to address partisan criticism of the judiciary directly is notable for a figure who has studiously avoided public commentary on politics or matters of public debate.

    The message publicly highlights what has been a growing private concern among the justices: that an intensifying storm of partisan rhetoric, attacks on the court's credibility by outside groups and public dissatisfaction with some recent high-profile decisions may empower open defiance of the Supreme Court's authority.

    There has also been deep unease about persistent protests outside justices' homes and threats of violence, which have resulted in around-the-clock security measures. President-elect Donald Trump has harshly attacked the court for unfavorable decisions over the past eight years, with some allies suggesting certain rulings could be ignored.

    Roberts was the slope. Now that it went from slippery to mudslide under his guidance he’s trying to paper over the sledgehammer blows.

    Robert's has no credibility. Scotus is just an arm of the gop and the project 2025 folks. He should shut his yap.

    Is it too late? Has the SCOTUS bathed in the stain of partisanship and corruption that brings criticism and worse so long that the patina is just not going away with a few words from the CJ?

    John Roberts surrendered our country to oligarchy with Citizens United and so the credible thing he could do would be resign

    'Not appropriate': Chief Justice Roberts smacks down Trump's call to impeach judge - Raw Story

    Chief Justice John Roberts issued a statement regarding President Donald Trump's desire to impeach the judge who ordered the administration to recall planes carrying Venezuelan migrants to a prison in El Salvador.

    As CNN's Paula Reid reported, "This is a huge deal. Here you have Chief Justice John Roberts appearing to push back on statements President Trump made earlier today, suggesting that Judge James Boasberg, who, of course, temporarily blocked deportations by the Trump administration or at least tried to, should be impeached."

    In his statement, the Chief Justice wrote that "for more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision. The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose."

    "Now, this is, of course, a very short statement, but it says so much...because earlier today, in a Truth Social post, President Trump sort of went on a tangent about how angry he was at this judge and saying, 'This judge, like many of the crooked judges I am forced to appear before, should be impeached.'"

    I read the statement, I think they are editorializing a bit calling it a "smack down" lol.

    I would agree with first part. I assume that you're speaking rhetorically regarding his resignation since Trump would nominate someone far worse to replace him. In fact a completely unqualified sycophant like Aileen Cannon is not beyond the realm of possibility and Trump's cowed Senate would probably confirm her.

    It's fun how much of a big deal it is to see any Trumppublican anywhere act like they're not either a criminal or a criminal enabler.

    Trump's flood the zone with crimes strategy certainly works. This is not a big deal, it's simply what a USSC member should say. It's like paying your taxes, taking care of your kids, or not cheating on your spouse - just what people should do.



    (Hadn't even realized how apropos my metaphor was, in today's vile times)

    Meaningless. Johnson is the authority here. Johnson should be the one who responds. Either Johnson follows Trump’s orders to seek an impeachment trial or tell Trump to shut up.
